“Desert Gardens is Economical: No frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

I originally booked a different condo through the lodging company, but weeks after my reservation, I was contacted that the condo I booked was no longer available, and they moved me to Desert Gardens #1. The price was pretty good coming in close to a cheaper hotel, but with a kitchen, which was a plus due to the fact that we were going to be in Moab for many days. Upon arrival the unit was not really clean, but it was ok. The "air conditioning" is really a swamp cooler, which makes the inside of the unit cool, but also very, very humid. Everything seemed damp, although after a long day of hiking in the 100 degree heat it didn't feel bad. There was also free wifi, although it was very slow.

The grounds are nice, and include a shared hot tub, fire pit and bbq. There is kind of off street parking, and a bike shed/area where you can work on bikes and clean them. It is right off of main street, but relatively far away from many of the places we were interested in visiting, such as the Moab Brewery and a couple of bike shops.

Overall, they are an economical choice if you are in town for a long period and would like to be able to cook. The cost is comprable to staying at a hotel on Main Street, but not as busy, and with lots more room. I wish it would have had a washer and dryer in the unit, or available.

Room Tip: Unit #1 is the first one along the road. The other units are located further from the roadway and m...

“A great place to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2009

I stayed at Desert Gardens and thought it was a great value. Only 2 blocks from Main St. easy walk to town anytime yet very quite location. It has a huge yard with huge green trees to sit and BBQ in and a hot tub the only 3 units share. While older buildings and not luxurious it is cozy, clean, an ultimate setting and location.

“Not Quite up to Par”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2008

Desert Gardens Cottages consist of a duplex and stand-alone unit on the same lot. They're located two blocks from Main Street and about two feet behind an old cement block storage building. The units themselves are old and constructed partially of concrete blocks. Moab Lodging will tell you they are air conditioned, but don't believe it. The unit we were in, which was the stand-alone unit, was cooled by an old evaporation system that was very ineffective. They tell you to turn the unit on, close off any rooms you're not using, and open a window in the rooms you want cooled. Never mind that it's 104 degrees out there! The furnishings were adequate. There was a small sitting room with a sofa and loveseat and small TV. There was a dining area and small kitchen. The bathroom was small but newer. The bedroom was large enough for a queen bed and two small nightstands. The dresser was located in a closet who's doors had been removed. The second bedroom had two twin beds and no windows. We closed that room off as we weren't using it. There was absolutely NO air circulating in either bedroom. Some of the light bulbs in the lamps and light fixtures we're burned out. The yard is sort of fenced and the lawn is grassy. There is a hot tub for guest use. There is a no pet policy but when we were there the occupants of one of the units had a large dog. I'm not sure they were guests as the car was marked Moab Lodging. It seemed as though the employees of Moab Lodging were living in the other units. The city of Moab is very busy with a lot of activity at all times.
