“Staff did an incredible job with a very difficult situation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

I stayed at the Quality Inn for over a week in October, and had several rooms booked for a family gathering during my last weekend there. On the third day of my stay, there was a fire in an electrical transformer that knocked out the electricity to the entire hotel. Since I was out of the hotel at the time, the staff had already found me a comparable place to stay in a Charles Town hotel by the time I knew there had been a fire. I was told the repair would take several days, and I was concerned that my event might need to be cancelled. Even though they thought the repairs would be made in time, the staff took it upon themselves to find sufficient rooms and a venue for my event just in case the hotel wouldn't be ready. Throughout this time, the staff were helpful - always providing me with whatever information they had at the time, but not telling me something that they didn't yet know. Fortunately, the hotel was open during the family event. Before allowing guests back, the hotel was thoroughly cleaned - even in the buildings that didn't have any smoke damage. Both my guests and myself were very pleased with the lodging, meeting rooms, food and service. Despite facing tremendous obstacles, the staff were able to pull out a miracle. On the weekend that I was there with my event, the hotel was also hosting two weddings and a church conference. As far as I can tell, everyone was pleased with the accommodations.

“left early couldn't handle the smell!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010 via mobile

Upon arrival we were greeted by simi friendly staff.Later asked for three blankets the girl rolled her eyes at me because apparently she had to walk down stairs to get them. She was quickly corrected by the manager then offer to carry them to my room. The room was large but smell of a old musty basement. The windows were bulted shut we couldn't even open them to get some relief from the smell.not to mention they looked like they haven't been cleaned since the hotel opened. The lobby and pool area appeared to have been updated recently. We were in town visting my sister after a pleasant day at harpers ferry we took my sister and her family for dinner at the resteruant in the hotel.the food was very yummy. However the server was redicoulis she literaly had 3 tables and she acted like every table in the place was filled. Not to mention how she reminded us about 10 times how she was the only server. If we all weren't so tired from our 5 mile hike we would have walked out. It took 2 hours just to get our food. When I pay high prices for dinner I expect to be treat like so. Not like I'm incoviencing the server.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2010

We recently stayed at this hotel. First they put us on the 1st floor, which is below ground level...it was very musty and we requested a different room. We were re-located to the 3rd floor- which was much better. The room was very clean, but the air conditioning kept us both up all night. The free breakfast Sucked.

“Excellent Hospitality and premium service at very reasonable rates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

We traveled to Charles Town on business and will most certainly return here to experince more of the historic attractions. The staff recommended we visit the Hollywood Casino. Wow! Great suggestion. What a way to entertain clients. Finally I must mention the wonderful food and drink at the tavern. Look forward to returning soon.

“The Lack-of-Quality Inn”

My spouse and I stayed here on a business trip for him, as part of a several-week road trip. Prior to checking in, we called the hotel to inquire of its pet policy and finding that pets are welcome, I informed the hotel that we would be traveling with our 6.5-pound dog. When we arrived, we found that we had been relegated to a building far away from the main one. Our room smelled of cigarettes and pet odors. We had requested a king-size bed; however, our room contained two queen beds. We called the front desk and were told that this is one of only TWO pet-friendly rooms in the hotel, and the other pet room was taken. We asked if this were also the smoking building and were told "yes." So we went immediately to the local Walmart and purchased a scented candle to mask the foul odors in the room. There was a power strip dangling mid-air between the dresser and the refrigerator-microwave-coffeemaker stand, with all of said appliances plugged into it. Every lampshade in the room was crooked when we arrived. There were holes in the curtains. The hair dryer is mounted on the wall two feet from the mirror, with its cord dangling over the back of the toilet. The vanity space in the bathroom is too small to hold the amenities needed by two adults. The towel rack hangs on the wall OUTSIDE the bathroom. There is wasted space above the "wardrobe," where a shelf could easily be added. But because there is none, our suitcases had to be stacked in the only unused corner of the room. We could not enjoy the fresh, clean mountain air because the windows are bolted shut. My first shower greeted me with a hair-clogged drain, two-thirds empty shampoo and conditioner, and no bath mat. Because there are two beds with one nightstand between, my spouse has to lie in the other bed to read and joins me only to sleep, and had to make a nightstand for the other side of the bed using an overturned trash can. In speaking with the front-desk clerk on the first morning about a few (but not all) of these problems, my spouse was spoken to rudely and curtly.

We do not appreciated being treated as lower-class citizens and housed in lower-quality accommodations simply because we choose to travel with a very small, very well behaved, very clean pet. Trust me: He has stayed in much nicer places than this, and so have we.

In addition, several travel sites state that this hotel has three restaurants on site. However, the Surf Restaurant, with its once-famous seafood buffet, has been closed for a year and a half, according to the rude, curt front-desk clerk.

The business center? Two computers side by side on a desk in the lobby, with a printer in between.

Oh, and the fitness center? One bike, one treadmill, and a mirrored wall.

It's a pity this place is so subpar, because the views are really wonderful.
