In most locations, the Bayfront Inn would be just adequate, and therefor overpriced. The room is like every motel room everywhere, at least every updated room in every legitimate chain - Americinn, most Radisons, Holiday, etc.
But these rooms, especially those on the upper floor, have private decks which are across the street from Lake Superior. The sunrises are incredible. It's fun to watch the ferries going in and out to Madeline Island, and to watch the other tourists cruising the waterfront. You are a minute from that ferry for the don't-miss ride to Madeline. You are surrounded by good restaurants and shops. You are just down the hill from the best orchards in the Midwest. What could be bad?
Well, the parking. In the summer, especially on weekends, you are competing with the diners and drinkers at the popular restaurant next door. If you are coming to Bayfield, it is likely that you are toting your bikes or your kayaks, and you may not feel good about your bike rack sticking out into a busy driveway being used by drinkers in pick-up trucks. I left a mirror on the bike, and it was not there the next morning. Who steals bike mirrors? Even on a weeknight in the off season, I had to back into a small space to ease the bike rack between two air conditioning units. So, definitely, take a look at this place, but bring bike locks.
Room Tip: Upper rooms. Otherwise, save your money and stay further from the lake.
