I needed to visit the Greeneville, TN area for a quick business trip. A local suggested the General Morgan Inn in downtown Greeneville and I was pleasantly surprised. Typical rate is around $120 and you get a pretty nice room for it. The hotel started serving customers in the late 1800's. The furnishments are time period appropriate, both in the lobby and in the rooms. My room was large and the bed was amazingly soft and comfortable. Bathroom was adequate although nothing to write home about. The only downside to the room was the HVAC. It was not the type to run at a constant low capacity. Rather it came on, ran on full for a short period of time and shut off. A little loud, but once I fell asleep I did not notice it. If you're a light sleeper, though it may wake you up. The restaurant downstairs was quality and a good place to grab a bite to eat. Breakfast is complimentary, but continental and it closes as 9:00am. If you're a late riser, plan on something else.
Parking is free of charge. It's a bit hard to find the first time though as it's behind the building and the signs are small. You might end up driving around the block to find it.
A word of warning to the those with disabilities. The hotel was not built to accomodate and there are many small (5-6 stairs) steps leading to different landings even on the same floor. For example, although my room was on the third floor, after I left the elevator, I had to walk up 6 steps to get to my room.
All in all, though it was a very comfortable and restful night.
