“Great Hotel - Convenient Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed at the hotel for four nights in January. I arrived late after a horrible flight (4 hours late). The hotel staff quickly checked me in, the room was perfect. The neighborhood is very convenient for downtown and buses, also, a real plus in San Francisco, is that the street the hotel is on is not up a very steep hill. There is a good grocery store just down the block. I especially want to give credit to Gregory, one of the front desk staff. After I left I realized I lost an earring. I emailed the hotel and they promptly checked and said they had the earring and would send it to me. I would definitely stay here again.

“Nice little Hotel in a great spot”

I came to San Fransisco in the off season (December) Hotel Vertigo was a very nice, hip and clean spot to lay our head for the night. It was super cool, the location in relation to Union Square was awesome! There are some great little restaurants in the neighbourhood. I have recommended this hotel to friends. I will add that I wasn't blown away with the attitude of the front desk staff. Some were eonderful and others were irritated to be there day after day.

“Cute little rehab'd boutique”

This trip I was looking for budget prices and I'm always looking for a convenient location, and Vertigo was the winner.

We had a "petite queen" which was really not that small. 4-6 feet on 3 sides of the bed plus a walk-in closet - I unloaded stuff we wouldn't need daily on the huge top shelf. Desk, fridge, and ARM chair didn't seem cramped. Cute bathroom with an older tub but nifty modern accents (like the rain-making shower head).

Decor is white, black, and orange, modern and retro and just the right bit of campy.

There were some scuff marks on the walls and a few dings on the furniture, but the bed was fresh and comfy and everything seemed quite clean.

The neighborhood isn't the best, right on the edge of the Tenderloin, but we walked everywhere during the day and didn't feel unsafe. (The latest we came back was at 11 or 12 pm it was in a car and we used the valet service.) There are a few odd people in the area but you can avoid the streets where most of them hang out if you want.

Parking is done by an outside valet service that uses multiple nearby garages. Never had trouble getting our car within 20-30 minutes but you do have to plan ahead.

We walked to Ferry Building and North Beach, but those were a haul, 20+ minutes - but not unpleasant. Union Square and Japantown are closer. No hotel restaurant or bar but with all the great places to eat & drink in the city, who's going to the hotel restaurant?

So, good little hotel in an older building, definitely worth the low price.

“San Fran gem!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I thought the hotel overall was enjoyable and would probably come back. The location is close enough to the square without being right next store to all the congestion and high traffic. Our room was on the third floor street side, which surprisingly didn't hear much noise from the city. A lot of people complain that the walls are super thin and the street noise is unbearable but I didn't experience this so everybody else is probably just a complainer. Come on, it's a city! A huge plus was that the hotel has stairs to use instead of relying on the lift. There were only two things I would say were the "negatives" and that would be the lighting in the bathroom was too bright (felt like the gates of heaven exploded in your face) and the front desk staff, with exception of Sam, always seemed to be in a bad mood. Honestly, a smile goes a long way. All in all I will definitely be back and would recommend this hotel to friends.

“Ughh!”

I had booked six rooms for a wedding and had confirmed that we could have two beds in three of the rooms. When we arrived, we were unable to get two beds in any of the rooms, they were just not available. I had talked to someone at the hotel and had their name, but, they still couldn't honor my request. We had to pay for an "upgrade" to get a roll a way bed into two of the rooms. Pay! One of our friends was booked into a room that was already occupied. They were the parents of the bride and it was late and they were shocked to open the room to find another couple in the bed. Then, one member of our group had his van broken into and couldn't open the hatch to load his luggage. Did I mention that we were not happy with this hotel?
