I guess the new brand of travelers travel for the frills and luxuries of their accommodations, not the place they visit, San Francisco, so much to do. Most of the comments above are totally misleading for the "average" traveler. And no one mentioned the protected courtyard facing in with tables that small groups can use all day. The rooms are large and full of light. The windows open wide allowing the great SF air to fill the rooms. I have stayed at this establishment for years many times each year. Yes, some maintenance issues have been annoying, but the rooms and linens are ALWAYS clean. I can sit at a large table with my laptop in a neighborhood relatively free of the downtown riff raff. The staff are friendly and helpful, the parking rarely a problem. But if you are the kind of person who allows a slow elevator to set off your "never again" button, stay away and leave the place for those of us and scores of French tourists who have a life.
