“I Know This Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2011

I guess the new brand of travelers travel for the frills and luxuries of their accommodations, not the place they visit, San Francisco, so much to do. Most of the comments above are totally misleading for the "average" traveler. And no one mentioned the protected courtyard facing in with tables that small groups can use all day. The rooms are large and full of light. The windows open wide allowing the great SF air to fill the rooms. I have stayed at this establishment for years many times each year. Yes, some maintenance issues have been annoying, but the rooms and linens are ALWAYS clean. I can sit at a large table with my laptop in a neighborhood relatively free of the downtown riff raff. The staff are friendly and helpful, the parking rarely a problem. But if you are the kind of person who allows a slow elevator to set off your "never again" button, stay away and leave the place for those of us and scores of French tourists who have a life.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Franklin are noisier than the others

“A decent motel for a decent price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2011

The Oasis Inn is a great little motel in downtown San Francisco.
Definitely for the budget traveller, our room was clean, relatively spacious, with a coffee maker, cable tv, and free wifi (the last of which is, for some reason, not advertised, so it was a very pleasant surprise). Great value for the low price. Love the retro look of the exterior...very 70's style motel with tons of plants and trees about. There is a hot tub, but it wasn't in working order during our stay. The clerks at the front desk were friendly and accommodating. Literally less than a minute walk to the bus, and an hour's walk to Fisherman's Wharf and the Haight. I would certainly stay here again when I return to the amazing San Francisco.

“No way to stay again”

The only attraction is the free parking. We did not want even want to take shower after we saw the condition of the room.

“hotel desk did not honor bed choice- dirty- paper thin walls-loud”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

We booked a queen/king bed on the internet but when we arrived the man at the desk tried to convince us the 2 double beds were queens. Unbelievable. We refused the room, and all of a sudden there was a king available. It didn't get any better. It was stuffy, no air, carpet was filthy, the tub had rust in it, and the walls are so thin we heard loud traffic noise all night and a party started at 4am that took an hour to get the staff to end it. We were in the city for an event but we were so exhausted from the lack of sleep we left early. Don't waste your time or money here. Its for hookers and drug users. The hot tub was empty and all the ashtrays in the stairwells were filled. Nasty place. Spend the extra $30 and go to a reputable place. The free parking did not come with in and out privileges so we paid $60 in cab fare to get around. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!

“Good Location for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

We stayed at this hotel for a week in October. I was a little leery when reading the bed bug reviews, but checked the national bed bug data base - and this hotel was not on their list.

The hotel is in a very good location, about 7 blocks from Union Square and right near the opera house and symphony building - We stuck to walking and public transportation - so I recommend walking down Eddy Street or O'Farrell (Ellis street seemed to have more sketchy people).

We pulled apart the bed and bedding the first day to check for any bugs - and there was nothing - we did notice though that the cleaning staff do not lift the blankets to vacuum right next to the bed - it was quite dusty there.
We did have an encounter with one cockroach in our room, and he was quick! My husband bought roach killer from the 99cent store the next day and spread it in the doorway and window, and behind the vanity where we saw the cockroach - it then made it's appearance by the TV - and we snuffed it out with the roach killer and flushed him. My husband then checked every nook and crevice, behind the picture frames - and there was no more bugs to be seen. So I assume it was just a once in awhile scenario.

Like I said in the quote it was a really good location for the price you paid - the towels were changed everyday, and the bed made - the staff were super friendly.

Just around the block on Eddy Street is a Round Table pizza (Which is fantastic!)
