“Great SF Location, Cheap, Clean and Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We stayed here towards the end of July 2011, and we were mainly looking for somewhere cheap, with preferably free parking. We found it here. It's only a motel so you get what you pay for. But the lady at Reception I found to be very helpful when I asked for a number of a taxi company and just general check in and check out she seemed pleasant. I think its a case of if you approach her with a smile and be friendly, she will be the exact right back. I've seen a few people moan that the staff were rude, but I certainly didn't experience that.

It is in a good location and only about $10 taxi ride away from the famous fishermans wharf. A short but steep walk up to the crooked street on lombard, only a few blocks away. Has some great little eateries within walking distance as well. We got a tram from near Macy's at the heart of San Fran pretty much nearly all the way to our Motel, so thats also an option if you are around that way. I certainly don't remember a long walk.

The best things about this motel are definitely the location, the cost (I searched for hours and this is by far one of the cheapest for what you get), the FREE parking, FREE wi-fi, FREE breakfast! It was clean, and comfortable for the 3 nights we were here. Wasn't at all noisy from what I can remember, and was a nice place to chill out at the end of the day. I have recommended it to a friend who is visiting SF in February, and I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Parking is very tight, and was always full. Once we got a space on arrival, we didn't move the c...

“You get what you paid for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

If you are in a budget this is the motel, very convenient location and good price. Room was clean and comfortable, not great but good enough for one night maximum two. Walls are thin, so if you are looking for a peaceful and quiet night maybe is not the best place to stay. Other than that service is good.

Room Tip: Get as far as possible from the street on the second floor.

“Good enough budget hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

We stayed two nights in August. We wanted to stay near Fisherman's Wharf, but did not want to spend an arm and a leg on a hotel. That is what we got here. It's right off Lombard, so lots of traffic, the room and decor were old & a bit shabby, but it was clean. Bed was comfortable enough, the room we had was a smoking room so it smelled heavily of air freshener. It was a pleasant enough stay here - like I said, it was clean, the owner was friendly and the parking was free. Easily walk to Fisherman's Wharf from there. We knew we would spend little time in the room, so we did not want to pay high rates, and this suited.

“Nice but nightmare breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011 via mobile

The motel is well located but the breakfast was really poor, just coffee, juice and greasy snacks. The owner made us feel under control during the breakfast. In particular she didn't allow us to bring two trays in our room with the breakfast, explaining us that she didn't have enough trays for the rest of the motel guests. You can feel the stinginess of the owner noticing the old fashioned furnitures of the room and the shabby aspect of the bad linen, however the room was clean.

“Good deal for the money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

There are more expensive hotels, of course, that we couldn't afford, but, for our budget, this had everything we needed: a clean place to shower/sleep in a decent neighborhood. The rooms aren't big, but if you plan to be gone all day it doesn't really matter. It has the basics: TV with local & basic channels, clock radio, iron/ironing board, toiletries, clean towels, good shower, comfortable beds. Only [small] negative: if you're close to the front, and want to sleep with the window open, you can hear the cars going down Lombard St (the only reason I gave sleep quality a "3'), so, if you can, get a room in the back.
It's run by a very nice couple, who are very helpful. They recommended a great bike rental place just a few blocks away (only $20 for the whole day, 24 hours -- meaning, even though they close at 8 pm, if you rent it out in the morning, you don't have to return it until the next morning, same time!) and they also called a cab for us.
Also -- and this was the best part for us -- we had a red-eye back home on the last day (11:15 pm) and, even though check-out time is 11 am, they let us keep our bags (3 carry-ons) in a room behind the office so we could go sight-seeing some more! We came back at 9 pm, collected our bags, and got into the taxi that they had called for us earlier in the day. If you arrive later than you thought, they close the office at 10 pm, but there's a button you can press and they come out and check you in.
We would definitely use the San FranciscoTown House Motel again.
