“Adequate...but not much more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The staff was adequate and capable but nobody took that extra step to provide exceptional customer service. There were protestors outside of the hotel that were harassing upon your entrance and exit but we did not find them disturbing once we were inside. The hotel also posted security and someone to open the door for you to expedite your entrance and exit while they were there. The hotel posted that if you would like a late check-out (later than 12pm) that they would do everything they could to accommodate. However, when we requested a 2pm late check-out we were told that for anything after 1pm we would have to pay an additional $50 charge because the room would not be able to be resold for that day. During our stay there was a conference in town and all of the hotels drastically inflated their prices. Our room at Hotel Frank was $400+ per night and the head of our queen bed backed up to the elevator shaft. Raising prices for less than desirable rooms just because they can results in customers staying at other hotels for their next trip just because they can, at least that's what I'll do.

Dear mlctkc,

Thank you for choosing Hotel Frank for your recent San Francisco visit.

Please know that we consider every late check-out request. However, when a hotel is sold out, it can be difficult to honor given the flow of arrivals and departures. We are sorry that we were unable to accommodate you during this very busy time.

We hope you'll reconsider Hotel Frank in the future.

Good value hotel, great location only a block away from Union Sq. Recently refurbished but still a little tired in places, nevertheless, great value.

“Don't waste your time or money”

I stayed here on business for 3 nights. The room left a lot to be desired - the carpet was stained and had several burns. The bathroom was teeny weenie and was inconvenient if you want to do anything exotic like wash your face. There was a half-size sink and no surface area to store any toiletries. The robe in the room was dirty and old. but the kicker was that when I called for room service at 8 pm, I was told that the room service person was on break and there was nothing anyone could do.

Skip it.

“Christmas Trip for Each Other”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My wife and I decided to go San Francisco as our Christmas gift to each other. This was our third stay at the Hotel Frank in the last 12 months and the prior two times we stayed in the penthouse. This time we stayed in the junior suite and found the room to be very nice and the staff very friendly and professional. The front desk person gave us a room on an upper floor in the back so the protestors were not that loud. Our arrival was a different story....the protestors were abusive and got very personal regarding some of the things they were yelling. I did email the hotel a week prior to ask if the protestors were still there but did not receive a response so I should have known better. We might be going back to San Francisco with our daughters in the next few weeks and would love to stay at the hotel again. Unfortunately, if the protestors are still there we will not be able to since we will not subject our daughters to their abusive actions. we stayed 01/06 thru 01/08

Room Tip: Call ahead and find out the protestors hours before checking in

“Great Stay and never heard the picketers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Stayed at the hotel during Oracle openworld.
The room was spacious and the choice of colors and furniture makes this hotel stand out of the standard Chain like feeling. There were also some nice to have like a small fridge and complimentary Wi-Fi.
The only negative part is that there on 2 occasions there was a sulphur like smell coming from bathroom.
A nice walk to Moscone center and just a block away from Union Square and the cable cars.
For breakfast you have to try the French toast from the Hotel restaurant - just to die for.
