I have stayed at the Sestri Hotel for months at a time when I'm in San Francisco. It is owned/managed by a very kind and helpful family who go out of their way to repair/take care of any problems. The place is very clean and completely bug-free and the showers and toilets in the women's room have recently been renovated and are now quite nice. Ask for the quiet side of the hotel when you book and you will find the noise level quite low. The beds are comfortable and you can request a chair, a dresser, or a small table if you like.
As the rest of the reviewers have said, you couldn't ask for a prettier, more convenient or safer neighborhood--it's the border between Chinatown and the Italian neighborhood of North Beach. Lots of historic coffee houses and the famous City Lights Bookstore, and pretty Washington Square park within a few minutes walk, excellent restaurants, fruit & veggie stands, and even an organic market 5 minutes away. Almost in front of the hotel is a bus stop which will take you straight to Union Square, Bart Stations, and the other way to Fisherman's Wharf, Union Street (Cow Hollow) and other scenic spots. Do yourself a favor, save a lot of money and stay here!!
