“awful place”

only has parking for a few cars so we were made to park on street and were told to move our vehicle by 7am. front desk guy was arguing with a customer in front of us. comforter had stains on it. the bath towels had yellow stains and holes in them. the room smelled musty. it's also located in a questionable area. we stayed here for free with our choice privileges points, but would have rather spent money on something decent, than to stay here for free. overall, a disgusting place.

“YOU COULD NOT PAY ME ENOUGH TO STAY HERE!!!!!!”

I warn you condition of this hotel is nothing like it appears in the promo photos on this site. Believe me the photos need to be updated to reflect the actual condition of this deplorable establishment! It is dirty and very, very run down and is located in a bad part of town! The elevator is one step above a dumb waiter with a manual door and it is so small it is over crowded with one passenger and one suitcase. We made our reservations in advance through choisehotels.com using my VISA to confirm and hold our reservation. When we arrived we were treated like we were low lives renting the room by the hour by the hotel management who demanded we fork over a $20 CASH key deposit. After refusing to pay the $20 cash key deposit and using the antique elevator to get to the third floor and then seeing the deplorable condition of the room we decided not to stay and immediately checked out NEVER TO RETURN!

“Great bargain in San Francisco and very helpful management.”

Very smooth check in by very nice managers. Good location one half block from Van Ness and from there you can go any where in the city. Direct # 47 bus to Fisherman's Wharf. Clean rooms and free parking if you want to park a car. Free continental breakfast.
It is not a five star motel but for the money it's a bargain and my stay's have always been
pleasant. And that is important as San Francisco can be very expensive for lodging.

Room Tip: I like the third floor when available.

“Clean, great internet and service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

I stayed that the Rodeway In Civic Center for 4 nights. The room was very clean and recently renovated. The maid service was friendly and efficient. The check in procedure was quick and painless. The free WiFi internet connected easily and was fast. There was a coffee maker along with coffee, a TV with cable and HBO and a refrigerator in my room. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. A great value for the price.

“BE FOREWARNED”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Although this decidedly overpriced, faded Rodeway property is in a convenient area ON THE MAP, had we been thinking, we would have looked harder for another lodging to reserve. To be fair, we knew the neighborhood was not high end, but we were attracted by free parking, and included breakfast. After a long day's ride down the lovely CA coast, we were longing for showers, food and rest. We arrived at the hotel, pulled up outside the dim and unwelcoming parking entry and Hubby and son went in search of the not clearly indicated office. Upon entering, the female worker , without greeting nor eye contact demanded a reservation and ID. Not ever raising her eyes, she barked when she did not see the proffered card...and when asked for information, gave unintelligable replies. She was so rude my son actually left the office to get away from her. Hubby was then informed that there was no off street parking available for us that night and that we would have to arise at 7 am to feed meters on the street...so we began to remove everything from the inside of our van because the homeless will break in even for a pillow. Just as we discovered that we needed to reposition our nearly empty vehicle because it was too far into the no parking area, a man with a little child in his arms came up and informed us brusquely that we could not park the way we were. At my equally brusque "we ARE moving!" reply he enjoined that I needn't be rude , he was trying to be helpful. Come to find out, this casually dressed, child carrying passerby is the manager. OH. We were nonplussed and tired and travel worn. There was grumping from the peanut gallery. As we struggled with our key card, baggage and the dark garage interior, to get in to the cramped dingy access to the ( broom closet sized) elevator and stair, the manager shouted out to my husband to come to the office. There he was informed that if we were unhappy we could cancel our stay free of charge. No offer of help to get our extra bags upstairs. No list of parking garages ( of which there are several closeby) to put our plainly never going to fit in the narrow and dark confines of the parking garage van. Very rude, very unprofessional, and very unwelcoming folks, these managers.
The room was surprisingly clean, unsmelly, and roomy. The sheets and towels were quite worn but adequate for our needs.
We just about died laughing over the free continental breakfast. A limp prepackaged bakery item, juice and coffee in the closet sized office. To fetch and carry back to the room. On which continent is this breakfast? We stayed at Marriot and Hilton properties FOR LESS PER NIGHT with more amenities. Truly not value for money with rude managers as well. A letter to the Rodeway chain is in the works.
Again, it would not have been so bad if they had professional demeanors in the office.
