I was recently in San Francisco for 3 days for a personal medical reason and stayed at the Laurel Inn which was close to the UCSF Mount Zion campus. I was there with my husband. I thought we had booked a city view room with a kitchenette, but it turned out there was some confusion with the booking so we were given a plain city view room with the intention of moving to one with a kitchenette for the remainder of our stay. The first room was OK in size but did not have a refrigerator or a coffee maker that one takes for granted these days. It was also on the first floor so a little noisy but we didn't spend that much time in the hotel. The lock wasn't working apparently the battery had run down and took more than an hour before that was fixed. The move to the room with the kitchenette the next day took much longer than expected and the person at the reception desk got progressively grumpier when we asked him the third time in the afternoon (we had commitments for the rest of the day). But we got moved and the new room was nicer ($30 more), on the third floor and quieter. Overall the rooms were outdated (stained sinks and carpets) but comfortable, a little overpriced, location was great, very close to the Presidio and we walked there and to the ocean every day we were in SF. Lots of restaurants in the Laurel Village area. Oh, there is no real business center and they charged to print out a boarding pass. The lobby/reception area is miniscule.
