I went to this hotel for a business meeting located in the hotel and did not read the reviews in advance since the rooms were booked by the business group. I have now read the reviews to see if others had a similar experience. Based on the reviews I read, I have a couple of new comments to add and a few things to reinforce from other reviewers. The first observation I didn’t notice in other comments was the location. While technically in the Financial District, this hotel is not located in a neighborhood you would typically think of when staying in a financial district. Hilton Chinatown would probably be a more accurate name. That said, since I stayed an extra day to tour, the proximity to tourist locations was probably its best feature. It is an easy walk to Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, and Italian restaurants on Columbus. I did receive excellent intel from the concierge. I wanted to take the cable car and he told me where to “theoretically” (his word) catch the cable car. He said it would be busy (“on a nice day such as today” it’s January) and the first one would pass you since it was at capacity. The driver would tell you there was another one just behind him, which would also be full with a driver telling you the same thing. This happened exactly as he described. While disappointed to not take the cable car (caught it later from the point of origin in the actual Financial District), I knew not to wait any longer and discovered how close the Wharf was on foot. I still had to stand outside on the ledge of the cable car, which I was thrilled to do except for the rain and wind. The second observation I didn’t see elsewhere was the water temperature. The shower and sink water was alternatively hot, cold, lukewarm, but mostly cold to lukewarm. After the first cold shower I talked to the front desk clerk who promised to send someone. When I returned in the afternoon, the water was still cold. They sent another maintenance person (or maybe the first). He was professional and seemed competent, but the adjustments he made to the hot water pressure turned out to be temporary as the shower the next day was at best lukewarm.
Reinforcing comments: My room had a good view even on a low floor and was also very clean. Wifi was free but incredibly slow. Do not stay at this hotel if you like sleep. Both the interior and exterior walls are paper-thin. Maybe higher floors are better as noted in other reviews. I stayed on the 8th floor. I have no trouble sleeping in large city hotels with their garbage trucks and sirens, but hearing voices (both the kids in the nearby room and the drunks on the street below) so close they sound like they are in your room is disruptive to sleep. Unfortunately, the business meeting was scheduled on Chinese New Year day celebration. As I mentioned, the hotel is more Chinatown than Financial District. Firecrackers went off throughout the second night. It seemed like a war zone. On the plus side, I could not hear the kids inside the hotel due to the barrage of explosives outside. I would say never stay here on Chinese New Year, but the fact that they provide earplugs (picture provided) should be all you need to know about noise in this hotel on any day of the year.

Thank you for your informative review of the Hilton San Francisco Financial District. Unfortunately, you seem to have been here on the eve of Chinese New Years and Chinese New Year. Being the year of the Dragon, and having the Chinese Cultural Center on the 3 Floor of the hotel, the hotel has been a hotbed of activity celebrating this special year. Not sure if you were able to see any of the festivities on Monday, Jan. 30, as the Mayor of SF, Ed Lee and some of his Supervisors were here to open the festivities with fireworks, 4 person lion dances, and the special 30 person long Dragon Dance. The festivities will cuminate this Sat. Feb 11 with the parade which will pass directly in front of the hotel, along with more fireworks. I regret to hear that the noise levels were very high over this period, as the tall building surrounding our hotel does deflect all the street noise and fireworks up the hotel walls. The location is very central and does open to Chinatown, Financial District in the back of the hotel, where the Transamerica Pyramid is located (signifying the Financial Ceter of SF), and North Beach adjacent to the hotel. We are only a short 15 minute stroll to Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square. I apologize for the hot water problems you encountered as well, We were replacing failed elements in our hot water lines and also implementing a new Hilton Stay Connected program which also failed upon the cutover during this period. We have since fixed the boiler issues and WIFI connection. Again, thank you for your feedback. I do hope we will see you again, as many of the problems you encountered have been remedied.
