“Nice bed in a strange 'hood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This is a clean hotel in a dodgy part of town. My check-in was great, and the room was clean. The balcony is just a walk out - not enough room to sit - but enhances the room's open feel. I slept very well - the bed was very comfortable.

The location is pretty good. it is a 20 minute walk to Moscone Center. However, the Muni and BART lines are just down the block. I purchased a 7 day Muni pass from the Cable Car terminus on Powell St, which allowed me unlimited rides on the Cable Cars, Muni Streetcars, and Muni buses. Each morning I would hop on the Route 14 bus on Mission up to Peet's coffee on 3rd St, then head to the Moscone Center for my convention. In the evenings, I used the Cable Cars and Streetcars to get around for dinners with colleagues and sightseeing.

The neighborhood is still undergoing "revitalization". There are a few boarded up buildings, vacant lots, and homeless people you have to wade through before getting to the better areas of San Francisco. In a few years, this will again be a nice neighborhood in which to shop and eat.

Room Tip: I asked for "as high as possible", and was on the top floor. A new building is being const...

Dear guest,
Thank you for your comments and we are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay and slept very well!
We offer a great value with our location only 5 blocks to the Moscone Convention Center with easy access either by streetcar, subway, taxi or foot.
The mid-Market Street area is undergoing changes and offers an exciting mix of unique institutions to enjoy as well as a central point for seeing all of what San Francisco has to offer.
We hope to have you back with us in the future.

Sincerely,
Leslie Li

“San Francisco's Return of "The Birds"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Thumbs up for allowing me an early check-in; little did I know that the Wheel Chair Accessible room that I was given for the early check-in would be absolutely abominable. Check out the photo below - "balcony" was a haven for the pigeons - totally disgusting, loud, and eerie. I also did not realize that folks confined to wheel chairs don't use laptop computers (note of sarcasm here) - the room had no separate work station or desk; a thoughtless touch. The room was the half the size of the hotel's other standard rooms. Would have been tolerable but was not clean - pigeon feathers and other crap located by the sliding door - looked like it had not been vacuumed in days...

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Dear guest,
Thank you for your comments and I am sorry to hear of the experience with your recent stay. All our hotel rooms are the same size; however, a different layout based on the room type and bathroom size requirements.
We were sorry the recent pigeons arrived during your visit. We have had great success with a new method to resolve the problem in an environmentally friendly way and have cleared them from the balconies.
Please feel free to contact me if I you have travel needs to San Francisco in the future and I can assist with your wheel chair accessible room arrangements.

Sincerely,
Leslie Li

“Nice stay!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Arrived a little early and able to check in right away. Super nice and friendly staff. The bed was bomb-so comfortable. I was very impressed with the room as well.

Not a real great neighborhood, but one block away from BART, which came in handy. I wouldn't walk around at night, but the price and comfort of this hotel made it worth it. Pay for parking in a secure garage attached to hotel.

Room Tip: Construction going on in front across the street. You might want to ask for a room away from the noi...

Dear guest,
Thank you for your comments. It was our pleasure to host your stay and we are happy to see that you enjoyed both your bed and the convenient public transportation. Located in a downtown, urban environment we encourage everyone to take safety, travel precautions wherever you are in the city.
Our in-house parking garage provides 24/7 in and out privileges for our guests with rates priced very competitively to other indoor parking garages offering 24 hour access.
Sincerely,

“Nice Hotel, helpful staff, area proliferated by filthy down and outs.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My wife and I arrived at the hotel on the evening of Wednesday 25th January returning from Hawaii. The hotel itself is excellent rooms and service good in all respects, perhaps except for the dinner buffet which was warmed up and not to my liking at all. My wife had the salad and did better than I.
HoweverI think my heading related to our visit to this area both last week and now should be "I cry for you San Francisco" not quoting too heavily on the song from Evita!!!! Firstly San Francisco is a beautiful city with so much going for it in terms of amenities, infrastructure as well as scenery and Wharf etc. However all of this at a price related to the disturbing level of dirty, filthy, scruffy down and outs and beggars that are everywhere. Disgusting sights of them everywhere some even partly clothed and exposing themselves, it is a job to work out those that are mentally ill, those that are drugged up or drunk and those that are as they are because they want to be. All in all one would like to have the feelings of sympathy and charity but these filthy people should be dealt with and removed. Not sure about helping them but think of the benefits to all if they are dealt with as they should be and removed from the streets. It is so sad in my view as my wife and I would have loved to have visited a number of places but decided we did not want to pass over or by some of these smelly dirty people who frequent almost every part of San Francisco. Why I ask do the police not do something about this even arresting them for stealing the shopping carts which many of them use to cart their belongings around. Also a word about travelling on public transport, we travelled on a bus from Fisherman's Wharf to the Civic Centre at about 3pm on the afternoon of Thursday the 26th January and were unfortunate enough to be at the Galileo Academy of Science & Technology when it was boarded by a large number of girls or should I say young ladies from the school. During our tip their language was appalling and they used each and every expletive I had ever heard and with no shame whatsoever. Also their lack of the English Language like so many was evident by the stupid and annoying use of the word "LIKE" in almost every sentence they use. Interspersed with such memoral lines as "you know" etc with the expletives they took an enormous amount of time to tell their associates even the most simple details. Sorry this review as about the hotel but as far as I am concerned it is also about the area in which the hotel is situated.

Room Tip: The views from our room on the 11th floor into the city etc were excellent and it also had a balcony...
