“Average experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Firstly the pictures on the site may have been photo shopped as when you click on the Location tab of their website it shows the hotel with a tram car out side. this is not the case, there is no tram stop on the street and none pass through it. However about 5 or 6 minutes walk there is one so i dont know why they photoshopped a tram to appear outside the hotel.

Anyway, the location here is pretty good to be fair. middle of china town and within 5 to 7 minutes walk down to Market street for the buses and trains etc. Also only 5 minutes walk to Macy’s and the square. Near bars and shops and a laundrette too.

The hotel its self is very average in terms of the rooms. They are basic and quite small but clean. They have cable TV and wifi in the rooms. So I guess you get what you pay for here.
The hotel staff were actually very pleasant and helpful with recommendations, directions and general info.

This hotel is fine for a few nights with a partner or friend in San Fran. It wasn’t too expensive and its not the greatest hotel in the world but will certainly do, if all you want is a good, quiet nights sleep, easy access to transportation, clean towels and bed at the end of a long day.

“Heater woke me up in the middle of the night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I stayed here for a week on a business trip and I changed rooms four times. The first time I changed because they offered me a queen size bed instead of two single beds. But the heater in that room (410 I think it was) woke me up in the early morning when it let out steam, which produced a loud hissing noise followed by some popping. The first night it was ok, since it only woke me up 15 min before my alarm clock, though it was not the most pleasureable wakeup. But the next night it woke me up at 5.15am, even though the staff said that they should have fixed it! It did not go away for at least one and a half hour, and I could not sleep. Very annoying, since I had a 14hour working day and a job interview ahead of me! They moved me to another room that day, and the fourth move was to their top-of-the-line room as a compensation for the troubles I had. I would much rather have had a cash reimbursement, but since I booked it through expedia.com, they said it was impossible. They could offer me a 10% discount on the next stay in the Grant plaza but I will never go back.

Otherwise, the rooms were ok but not more. Tiny, not very well cleaned, and could use a fix-up (even in the top room, the wallpaper was flaking and the moldings (the wood at the bottom of the wall) broken. I did not have a good sleep in any of the rooms.

Room Tip: Avoid room 410.

“You get what you pay for I guess”

If you're looking to head to San Francisco and spend 70 bucks a night to feel like you have been wrongfully imprisoned in chateau d'if then this is the hotel for you. Aside from the fact that the rooms are cartoonishly small and stink of bleach, there is no A/C and even in winter, when my wife and I went, it becomes ridiculously hot halfway through the night. Another great selling point for this place is that there is no parking whatsoever, but, have no fear, there is a parking garage they "let" you park in and they are nice enough to only charge you 25 dollars a day. Yeah, so it's in a great location in San Francisco, big deal. That "great location" included complimentary fireworks being set off all night outside our window, a great view of a dark alleyway that made my wife terrified to open the window when it became sweltering in the room and a shower that only an oompa loompa could fit in. Staff was cool but relatively clueless and the TV only has two channels. My recommendation? Go find some homeless people by the piers and bunk up with them rather than staying in this hotel. It will save your trip.

This is not a new hotel but the place is clean and affordable. The staff is great, thanks Theo, and very helpful. Will always stay there when in San Francisco.

“Big NO for the hotel.”

The rooms are tiny, and awful. Hotel Staff is not at all helpful whatsoever. I got 2 rooms for 70$ each per night but not worth it. The biggest catch is there is no parking for the hotel, they have some garage for the parking but that is a paid parking for 25$ a day. and that is also 2 blocks away.

I would never stay in this hotel even for free.

Dreadful experience
