“central location and good price”

I recently stayed here for 5 nights while attending a conference at the Moscone center. The first thing to note is how central and convenient the hotel is. Having caught the BART train from the airport to powell street($8.10) I had only a simple 5 min walk to the hotel, which is one small block up from union square. I was also only a 10min walk from the convention centre. Despite a number of homeless generally wandering around the central region(they seem harmless) it is generally very safe, and there was always plenty of people on the surrounding streets. With the surrounding transportation links, the whole of SF is pretty much accessible from this central area.

The hotel itself doesn't look much from the outside, but once you get inside it is much nicer. My hotel room however didn't quite match up to the advertised pictures in that there was none of the exposed brick wall, and as such lacked a little character. It was small, but ample enough as a single traveller, but 2 persons with luggage may have found my room a little tight. it was however clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable, which is the usually the most important point of a hotel room.

A number of comments have been made about the noise. All the noise I experienced was extrenal and not within the hotel itself(stayed on 6th floor). It must be remembered however that this is not a modern purpose built hotel with double glazing etc, and as such there is little protection from the external noises. I can certainly report that the binmen do indeed arrive early(6am) several times a week and are extremely loud, although luckily I was genereally awake anyway from jet lag, and thus wasn't a major problem for me.

I didn't have breakfast as it wasn't included in my rate, but there are plenty of options available for breakfast within the surrounding streets to suit all budgets and taste. the bar on level 2 was always busy in the evenings, with many non-residents coming in. There was always a good atmosphere here, and usually a live band in the early evenings. Not the cheapest bar in SF though.

the staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout my stay

In summary this is not a perfect hotel, but its central position, relative cost, and comfy bed make up for this. If however an early morning wakeup is an issue for you then you may wish to consider another hotel, although I suspect you will get the same elsewhere unless you're in a more expensive modern hotel.

“Great Location, would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My daughter and I stayed this past Saturday, parking across the street for 24 hours was $18.00, we were in room 407, really cute, functional, clean and quiet until 11:30 when the music started, with that said, I was expecting it due to earlier reviews, it did end at 2AM. It is so centrally located I was surprised how quiet is was before that. You can get everywhere from this location. I found the staff really helpful and willing to help me with my questions. This hotel is worth the money. I was speaking to a women who was on the 7th floor and heard no music. Yes, the elevator was slow, but the hotel was booked the Saturday night we stayed. The pictures are true to the room we stayed in, I will definetly be back, up a few floors, Oh the breakfast was just fine, if you want better food, go out to breakfast.

Room Tip: if possible go past the fourth floor, if that is not available, bring ear plugs. It's a city!!!

“Comfortable and nice but lacking in amenities.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

I stayed here recently while in town for work and overall it is really nice and the location is prime, especially for the price. The room was comfortable and very trendy and the building is old but modern at the same time. The only negative thing I would have to say is that the continental breakfast was literally just orange juice, mini bagels and coffee and there is no hotel restaurant (though they are building one). Plenty of great places to eat very close by and I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to stay downtown for a couple nights.

“I'd come back again and again!”

I loved the inside vibe of the hotel lobby: modern and hip. The hallways have a dark and mysterious air to it...almost like an old school San Francisco type of look. The rooms are modern and adequate (not huge, but not small) in size. We stayed one night, but would have loved to have stayed some more. The bed was comfortable and very large, and the bathroom was nice and clean. My sister and her husband stayed down the street at the taj, which was also beautiful but not our style. We found the Crescent to be more our aesthetic. My husband also went down to the bar/lounge area of the hotel because we were hungry and wanted something to eat...He said the bar was packed, but the type of food they served were only overpriced appetizers which were okay but left us hungry.

“Fantastic hotel for a city break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I really enjoyed my time at this hotel. I stayed for a week exploring the city and the attractions. The hotel staff were kind and helpful, willing to help with any request. The bed was so comfy, better than mine at home.
The hotel is 2 blocks from the cable cars, main shopping area and lots of restaurants. The location really is great. There is a car park directly opposit the hotel and a bus stop right outside the front door.
The hotel itself is a lovely little boutique place. If you arelooking for a cooked breakfast and room service this is not the place for you.
Breakfast is complimentary and is more than sufficient. Bagels, muffins, toast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, juice, tea and coffee. There are no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms, however they are available 24/7 in the breakfast room.
I was worried after reading other reviews about the noise from the hotel bar and garbage trucks in the early hours. My room was on the 7th floor and I can honestly say I never heard either. You can hear general city noise, not very loudly, but what do you expect when you are in the centre of a city?!
I could hear people opening/closing their doors and walking down the corridor, but that didn't go on all night and I didn't hear anyone in the rooms next to me.
The rooms were very clean and the shampoo, conditioner and lotions were restocked regularly, with clean towels each day.
My only downside is that the hotel seems to have got rid of the beautiful bedspreads in the photos. Mine were all white. Also you did not get a bath, which if you require I suggest you double check when booking. However my shower was lovely and unlike other reviews, I had no problems with water pressure.
Next time I come to San Francisco I will be staying at the Crescent. I would highly recommend it if you want a taste of city life. If you want glitz, glam and wining/dining this probably is not for you.
