“Great hotel, Great Service, Great Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The initial decision on staying in this hotel was because it was located in a walking distance to Union Station and the cable cars. And its rate was one of the lowest, yet had the best overall rating in tripadvisor and other sources. Its valet parking service is really good. It was $27 for 24 hrs. The big plus is that we get to use the car whenever we want and bring back to valet without additional charge. $27 saves all your troubles in finding street parking in SF. The hotel staff were really kind and gave us a free upgrade to a queen suite on the 8th floor (highest floor). Even though, the hotel is aged and the room has an old hotel smell, the room was really big, with a mini bar and a big rest room. Fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, tv, big and a big dresser. Street noise was minimal due to being in the highest floor. The continental breakfast was so-so. The free wine and cheese tasting, we missed it. Overall, this hotel is great and definitely recommended.

“Good value in a good location”

I was able to book a "queen suite" (two queen beds and a wet bar), for two nights at a very good rate. Terrific location on Post Street, near Union Square Comfortable, spacious room, very clean, and wine was offered in the lobby each afternoon. Limited breakfast, from what i could tell, but we didn't try it. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a good, budget find near Union Square.

Older hotel that could use some updating.very hard to sleep at night, uncomfortable beds and a lot of street noise (sirens, cars using horns etc).breakfast was limited and exactly the same pastries everyday, but better than nothing.staff were nice and helpful.good location, close walk to union square, cable car and bus stops.but at night felt a bit unsafe walking around.

This hotel definately offers a great experience for those on a budget. The foyer is loaded with character and complimentory wine and cheese for happy hour just adds to the ambience, giving travellers the chance to meet people from all parts of the world. The staff are extremely helpful and whilst the rooms could be renovated a little they were very clean.

“Good value with a small problem on heat...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

...there was too much. We were on the top floor and the heat was up too high, a problem they admitted to and was being worked on but not solved in our visit. We needed to sleep with the windows open, and SF isn't a quiet town on the weekends. I'm presuming it's since been attended to.

The rooms were spacious and well fit, if a little dated. Everything was clean and quite satisfactory. The only down point was the very poorly managed breakfast. They need to take some care and set up a proper table or buffet, instead of a table in the middle of the room, paper plates and cups and plastic boxes of fruit.. might have been clean but it was a bit off-putting in display. They just need to learn to present better..

Room Tip: Try to avoid the front of the building as it's on a busy main road.
