Very good location with easy access to Union Square, the Financial District or Nob Hill. San Francisco is a great walking city and you could walk virtually anywhere downtown from this hotel. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is pretty safe with a lot of young people out on the street--although walking too far to the south or west means a less welcoming area. The restaurant and bar on premises works well for those who want to stay nearby for dinner. The wine hour is always a treat.

I've stayed at the Serrano twice now while attending a conference at the Moscone Center, and will definitely be staying there in the future. It's an older building with smallish rooms. But they have been completely updated and are comfortable, clean, and are a pleasant refuge from the bustle of the city. The restaurant downstairs is great and convenient for breakfast and dinner. And the location, though close enough to the Tenderloin to make late-night excursions a little iffy, is not very far from Union Square and other central SF attractions, as well as BART and other transit options.

Very lovely lobby with fresh flowers, rooms were small but clean and modern. The morning coffee and free newspapers were a delight. Bed was super comfortable. The neighborhood isn't great at night (like most of SF), but it was a quick and easy walk to Union Square. Just walk with another person!

High marks for the Serrano. Wonderful room and good location downtown -- to walk to Ferrry Building (where Slanted Roof is a must-go-to restaurant -- book well in advance). Staff was first rate and glad to be of help. My wife's wallet somehow fell out on our way to the car to drive to the airport and a hotel staffer promptly called us on the cell so we could turn around and avert disaster (her not having ID to get on the plane, or getting the wallet and getting to the airport too late to catch our flight). All in all, this is a place that pays attention to the little details that add up to make a big difference in enjoying a hotel.
