We stayed 4 nights on holiday on the Imperial Floor and overall the rooms and hotel itself were beautiful, in a modern, minimalist and functional style. What surprised me though was a lack of attention to detail from the staff, especially given the cost. Although they were friendly enough when approached (front desk, concierge, Anzu restaurant, Imperial Club Lounge), there was nothing outstanding or remarkable about the service. I didn't feel like the staff were there to please me (and definitely not trying to super-please me), rather just there to perform a function, i.e., very task oriented. The breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was very good, but the Sunday Brunch, which we booked for and paid for separately, was average at best, again, because nothing about it felt special - most of the food was either bland or boring (however the sushi assortment was the one standout), the wait staff were just getting through their jobs, and the DJ/live radio broadcast was somewhat of an interruption. Overall, disappointed that Nikko did not meet my expectations, and would not stay there again, other than maybe for a couple of nights' business travel.
