After spending three miserable nights in the Union Square Plaza Hotel, I phoned the Hebert in desperate hope of a brighter, quieter, more comfortable room. The brochure showed clean, brightly decorated, pleasant rooms, and the one we were assigned did not disappoint. The seventh floor location had surprisingly little noise, since the windows were good and we were high above the street. Although the bathroom was tiny, the room itself had enough space for a chair and mini-fridge (hooray!), which was a nice bonus. The second floor also has microwaves, a coffee maker, and coin-operated laundry. You really can't beat the location or the price, and while you shouldn't expect luxury, this hotel supplies the basics pleasantly. The locking lobby door is a plus, since quite a few people live on the streets in Union Square, and the green cleaning products and fluorescent bulbs will make the environmentally sensitive traveler happy.
Room Tip: Rooms may vary in noise level, since some part of the building seems to be used by students; ask for...
