We were traveling with another couple to San Francisco for an overnight stay, and they booked this hotel. I am so happy they did! Upon entering the foyer of the hotel, I noticed three things: 1) the door to the hotel was locked. Someone had to let us in. That instantly made me feel better. 2) There was a large orange tabby cat sitting on a chair, and he let us pet him. That made my day. 3) The elevator is a vintage Birdcage style, and added to the awesomely funky decor. Riding it up was a blast as well.
The man at the front desk was super friendly, and let us up to our rooms immediately. He gave us some interesting stories about the hotel, and Pip, the resident cat. Our rooms were small, but very cool. My friend said it reminded her a bit of staying at your favorite Nan's house. The decor is very eclectic, and had an old-school vibe to it. The bed was very comfortable, but the duvet cover was almost a bit too heavy. The 3 small rooms on our floor shared a bathroom, which is the ONLY complaint I have. It's set up like a proper hotel from the beginning of the 20th century.
Some things to add: The parking for the hotel is almost directly across the street, and $25 a day if the hotel endorses your parking pass. The hotel serves a continental breakfast, and our friends said the croissants and muffins were excellent, as was the coffee and juice. The staff was so friendly, and the animals (Pip was not the only animal, there was also Percy the French Bulldog who came by in the day, and a parakeet I could hear when I was in the lobby) were cute and liked getting pets and attention. Pip is allowed to go into the guests rooms if the guests allow it, and he prefers to cuddle with the ladies. The hotel is located about 2 blocks from a cable car stop, and is a very short walk to the Fashion District. This hotel was a perfect stay for us! We will definitely be back in future to stay here again.
