So I chose this hotel because of the location--close to Union Square, close to Moscone convention center--and being a Starwood member, had heard that the Market St. Westin was slightly more consistently nice than the Westin on Union Square, which is more of a "historic" building.
Staff: was excellent; requested a high floor, which I didn't necessarily get (17 of 30something), but it was high enough. Requested a king away from the elevator, which I did get. Used the concierge a couple times, who were very helpful. Needed a 6 passenger cab for transport to the airport, which was easily arranged with the doorman (though plan ahead). Cleaning staff were all friendly.
Room: considering the price, $311/night, I've stayed in nicer rooms at that price. Bathroom was pretty small. Had a large king bed, which was extremely comfortable. Full sized desk as well as another chair next to the bed. Large flat screen TV was nice, but due to the shape of the room, was kind of in an awkward position to watch from bed. Room had plenty of plugs for cell/laptop/iPad chargers. Closet was a little small, as well as the storage for clothes (for those of us who like to unpack). Not a huge fan of the Westin brand toiletries--but that's the same at all their hotels (W stuff is much better). The room I had was a pretty nice location; very end of the hall, almost a corner-type room, with a view of the bay. It was right next to the ice machine, but I NEVER heard it.
Food: didn't eat in the hotel a single time, though friends who did use the restaurant said it was very good.
Misc: The gym is average. Not very large. At one time, there were 10+ people there, and it was way too crowded. I did see signs about Westin clients being able to use the gym at the Four Seasons, but I didn't investigate this. It should be noted, the elevators were extremely fast. The hotel was crowded, there are tons of rooms, yet I never felt I had to wait for an elevator.
Overall, the place was clean, staff was awesome and accommodating, and the Westin bed is very nice to sleep in when spending such a long time in a hotel room. I would give the hotel a 5 star rating if the rooms were a little larger and maybe more extravagant, considering the price.
