“Great Loation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed in this Hotel as part of our Road Trip on the West Coast of Amercia in July 2011 - we specifically chose this hotel due to the free parking and the price.

Its right in the heart of Chinatown which was a great place to stay for 1st time visitors. The staff were always helpful and polite and would go out of there way to help us. Rooms were basic and could do with a bit of an upgrade but beds were comfy and plenty of hotel water. Would visit again.

“If you want to stay here take the good with the bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The good: Immaculately clean rooms, Comfortable beds, wifi, great staff, Chinatown is right around the corner with some of the best Chinese restaurants in the USA. Across the street is the New Sun Hong Kong Restaurant with some wonderful dishes. Inquire at the desk where to get an American breakfast as a place is very close by but hard to find without directions. Reasonably easy walk to Fishermans' Wharf and you are in North Beach and the tenderloin. Rates are very good for the location.
The bad: Because of the location it's noisy. I've stayed here numerous times over the course of many years. Sometimes I forget and take a room facing Broadway. When the bars close there is a constant flow of revelers howling at the moon at the top of their lungs and the noise is almost unbearable. Daytime and evening brings the sound of traffic and normal conversation which I can easily bear. Try to get a room facing away from the street. But that's not always a guarantee of quiet. The time before last a couple of vehicles with the same drunks that walk down the street late at night brought in pizza and parked in the back lot that doesn't belong to the hotel and had a party. They kept us and other guests awake for quite a while. This is not the norm, tho.

I've always like this hotel and will probably stay there again as habit is sometimes hard to break. The staff has no control over the noise outside of their property so they're not at fault. Maybe follow Steve A's advice and bring earplugs.

Room Tip: Get a room not facing the street.

“Good location, clean, but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

The good: This hotel sits on the northern end of Chinatown. The staff was always available, helpful, and polite. It an easy walk to Coit Tower and a fairly easy walk to Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square. There is free parking on site. It is close to LOTS of restaurants. Our room (#507) was clean. It had comfy beds and a nice bath with plenty of hot water.

The bad: Our room (#507) faced Broadway. It was fairly noisy starting about 7am and lasting until after midnight. The room could use some updating. Even though lots of restaurants are nearby, it was hard to find breakfast. The trolley system and BART are not close by.

The price was about what I would expect for the location and amenities. Advice: take earplugs.

“San Francisco Baby!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Plain and simple... you want to be in North Beach or Chinatown, dont and dont have mounds of cash, feel free to stay here. Free parking... the lot was full, but they still gave me free parking next store. Friendly. I got balcony and it was loud, but that is because you are in San Francisco!.. it was just what we wanted.. I night in San Fran, dinner, show and a place to sleep and shower... will do it again next time.. thanks!!!

Room Tip: if lot is full use underground lot to left of hotel (looking at hotel).. makes it easier than moving...
