“Good for party, cheap, not good for sleep or food.”

Located on the edge of the Tenderloin and Financial district, this location is good if you are traveling with someone else or are okay with being bothered by crack dealing hobos. Luckily (in some ways) I'm used to dealing with crack heads and hobos so this didn't bother me at all, but was rather entertaining. Overall, decently located in downtown.

The place is pretty crusty, not terrible though. It's like staying at your cousins dirty party house. The problem with San Francisco is that every hotel and hostel is expensive, so This place, $60 a night for a private room, was the cheapest place we could find. It smelled funny, and there were (apparently) no quiet hours, as there was loud singing, and instrument playing well past 2am. I like to be fair, so I'll say that the people working there were chill, not eager to help but nice. Stoned. The free breakfast? Old bread and jam, coffee, NO MORE. Not even butter. Also, don't expect to find parking anywhere if you have a car for under $25.

So, if you want a good time staying up late and partying and a cheap stay and like to eat out, this place is for you. If you want a free breakfast, and are street unwise and just want to sleep after midnight, don't come here.

“VERY BAD TIME!!!”

The WORST receptionnists EVER!!! No heater on the first floor....54°F (12°C)so i felt sick as many other people in the hostel! Receptionnists were incompetent and were thinking of leaving the heater that way for still a week...! I had to leave as they weren't even planning on giving any discounts to the hosts!
Oh and...they were rude! NEVER EVER go there: but the staff, wifi is going up and down non-stop, they are 3 restrooms and 2 showers in the whole place............! For this price, you can go to much better other hostels close by!!!

“Overall happy with our choice to stay here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

This is a good central location. You can get the BART straight from the airport to leave you just 5min walk away. Keep an eye out thought because you can easily walk by the entrance to Globetrotters. The staff are cool. Other people staying there were friendly. When they say free breakfast they mean you can use the following; peanut butter, jam, toast, tea or coffee. Shower that is trough the kitchen is the best spot for hot water. Price is good for San Fran.

“Only for the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

This is a very simple hostel. (kind of) old, not very clean, beds and linen not so comfortable/clean.
You have to carry your bag(s) upstairs to reach the rooms.
The staff is OK. There was a free internet service in the front desk, but just one computer for everyone.
I spent only one night in a room shared with 2 guys and a girl from different countries. Nobody knew each other, but there was no problem.
The best thing is the location. It's close to BART and Muni station in the heart of downtown San Francisco. There are a lot of restaurants and other attractions in the neighbourhood. It's also close to the Cable cars terminal.

“Great place in a central location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

We had a great time at the Globetrotters. It is a hostel, it is not luxury but very adequate for a cheap stay. The rooms on the street side are a bit noisy, but you are in the middle of the city. We stayed three nights and had a great time. The crowd at that time was very sociable and we always had a good time. Breakfast is very basic, but ok. Great value for money. Eventhough it was nearly booked out it did not feel crowded.
Would certainly recommend.
