“Totally worth staying here ..coming back ..dont miss it !!”

I found this place while researching Ocean beach... there is a two night minimum stay at 187.00 US ....4 of us stayed here as Joanne had a last minute cancellation. located on 42nd and Anza, a flat street, 4 blocks from the Beach and accross the park to the Cliff House. Totally auesome place for my two teens and sister. We shared the suite room overlooking the ocean...breathtaking view ..., nice windmill to watch, quiet area, clean, comfortable beds, victorian surroundings. Could not believe we had full use of the whole upstairs, a full kitchen with a large fridge, stove, microwave, tons of dishes and cookware, living room with fireplace, beautiful victorian dining area, reading material, tv and dvd player, cable, a bathroom and then a bathroom in our two room suite. Joanne was so friendly and she was very mindful of our needs. Her little grandaughter Olive is so cute, If you are allergic to cats just let Joanne know and she wont let it up. Safeway is just 4 blocks down and 2 blocks over on La Playa, buy groceries and have your own food after the lavish breakfast. Two blocks up hill on Geary you can catch the #38 all the way up, just call 311 which is the Muni public bus and they will help you get where you want. Golden Gate park was just a 4 block down hill walk to Fulton st ( beautiful park for walking just like a forest ) and then over to main Ocean Beach ( beautiful beach with surfers, clean sand, tons of room, tons of long beach for miles to walk, fun cold waves to jump in which was nice during the heat wave SF experienced, but tons of dogs running around but fun to watch them and they did not bother us for the most part) breathtaking sunset, just be careful when the tide is in or out too , there are riptides and you could be swept away so dont be fooled by the beauty there is danger too, there were shells at the sutra bath end of the beach and it is quiet and beautiful there so worth what it takes to get down there !!!!). Beach Chalet restaruant was priced better than Cliff house which we tried to eat at for three days and gave up due to crowds, even with a pager they give you. WAlk down to the old Sutra baths but beware you cant get to the beach and would have to either crawl precariously over the rocks or all the way back up. Also no where to get down to the most beautiful beach in SF from The Cliff house either, you need to walk down Hill to find an opening so from the Sutra baths it is a long walk to find an opening to the street. also we waited an hour to catch the number 38 bus on 48st after that long walk up from the Cliff house as did not realize Anza st is flat and could not bear the uphill climb on Geary street ( walking in SF is not for the faint of heart or anyone with medical issues, so we took cabs up those 90 degree angle streets, in the heat too) so was going to take the bus. A little scary at night waiting for the bus but Joanne reassured us it was safe. Dont eat at Louie's down from the Cliff house. it was reasonablly priced but the food so substandard. A raw meat chilie burger with I swear canned chilie ...just gross but the waitress graciouly took it off the bill, a warm rootbeer float ?? and our shrimp Louis salad was on a bed of iceberg lettuce with a half an egg , slice of tomatoe and a small helping of what looked like canned shrimp .....the clam chowder and sour dough was reasonable and the cake and pie looked good so you could try that. speaking of food...breakfast at the B nB was auesome....yogurt, fruit bowl which changed each morning... fresh pastry, cold cereals and juice...eggs if you want ..bagels and creme cheese one morning and you could help yourself all day to addictive chochlate chip home made cookies and there were all the little extras of snacks and chochlates on the bed and she cleaned up the rooms and bathrooms. There is one other bedroom for guests so you are sharing the whole space with one other couple. It is truely a home away from home and every other accommodation was a let down after this place ...........do not hesitate ....We are going back ..our teenage girls loved this place and are already asking to go back .......A great place to stay !!!

“Joanne is the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

I stayed here for a week in June, and it was such a lovely experience. Joanne is fantastic, and it felt like home. We're vegetarian, so she always had a different special breakfast from a local natural bakery for us (my waist would have preferred to just have the cereal, but the choice was mine lol). I'm not sure what she serves for those who eat meat, but I'm sure it's just as lovely. The B&B is located a few blocks from the beach and is a block away from two major streets with buses, Balboa and Geary. The area is quiet, and the view in the suite is amazing. Highly recommended and will definitely go back!

Oh, and there are lots of sushi restaurants and sweets shops in the area including a frozen yoghurt shop about 8 blocks away, not to mention the usual Walgreens (1 block + others), Starbucks (at least 3 on Geary alone), etc. There's something for everyone.

“Beautiful, quiet, off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

This is a great location, a ten-minute walk down a steep hill to a gorgeous beach, with bus service to downtown SF. The rooms are beautifully and simply decorated and very clean. The hostess was accommodating and understanding of the challenging personal circumstances under which I was visiting the city. This was the perfect place to stay.

“Excellent, and just like home!”

There are only two rooms in this beautiful home and Joanne the hostess, who lives in the house, does a great job managing this property. My wife and I lived in SFO for five years but we now live in New York. Our son currently lives in the Sunset District of the SFO, so when we visit him we were looking to stay in a residential neighborhood away from the tourists and traffic. This place was perfect for our needs and we stayed for 6 nights. The bedrooms are comfortable, the living and dining areas are spacious and beautifully decorated, and Joanne does a great job of making you feel at home. She also does a great job with breakfast every morning, and knows where everything is in the neighborhood since she has been there for many years. We never had any issue with street parking and the city bus line is a block away. We drove to the B&B and most places we wanted to visit, but took the public transit for any visits downtown in order to avoid traffic and parking. The neighborhood is very nice and safe, and you are close to the ocean so be ready for fog and cool temperatures.

“great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2009

I enjoyed the great hospitality together with this cosy quiet bed & breakfast. I would reccomend to everyone looking for a small place quite near the famous Cliff House restaurant. Its a private 2 room establishment but just what we needed after a long trip.
will hope to go back oneday.
