“Delightful Elegant Inn”

In a crazy city this was a piece of heaven. It was stepping back in time to a Victorian era filled with gracious service and elegance with the modern convenience of wifi. I loved my room - I almost expected to see a butler step in!

Von at the front desk anticipated my needs even before I thought to ask - he even printed my boarding pass for me - such a delightful young man. The bell man would not take a tip! This place was amazing.

It was pristine clean. I loved it.

Room Tip: I had a great room - I think all their rooms are excellent.

“Thoughtfull service”

Old style charm with all the conveniences. We arrived early. Our room was cleaned & made available to us with only a 20 minute wait. We slept great with no distracting noise from other guests or outside noise. The hotel is close to the wharf, museums, the opera, & much more. We walked most places or hopped on the bus, trolley or cable car.

“European Delight”

Truly one of the quietest hotels in San Franciscothat we have lodged in. For many years we have visited SF and this visit --no car horns, no sirens and a rare hallway voice. Well appointed with an absolutely delightful staff. We were content with the size of the room, the lobby, the number of rooms. Was quite entertaining to see the comings and goings of the theatre people, dancers, singers etc.
The view towards City hall is very Parisian.(It was designed as a Beaux-Art monument 1915). Plan on returning

“Almost great”

It's a really nice old style hotel full of character, great helpful staff and ideally located. The only problems I had though were fairly big ones. One, the room is very small, two, the Walls are so thin you can hear people talking in the other rooms and constant doors slamming (think they need something on the doors to stop them swinging shut so hard) and third, it might sound petty but the bed squeaked all the time. Every time I turned over in the night it squeaked and woke me up. Didn't sleep well here but it is a really nice place.

Thank you for staying with us recently and for your comments about your stay. I do apologize about the issues you experienced, and wanted to let you know that we are replacing all of our beds and frames within the next two months, so this should help with the problem with the squeaking and also make it much more comfortable!
The Inn is an older building and are rooms are on the smaller side, but I believe this also adds to the ambiance and charm of old San Francisco.
We have also started looking into the slamming door situation, and hope to also have this resolved as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your comments and recent visit, and we hope that the next time you are in San Francisco that you visit us again.

“Neat little place to stay -- full of charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed here for a couple nights while in San Francisco. It was so convenient to so much, and far less expensive than places close to the wharf. Next door to museums, the opera, performing arts center, city hall, and more. Walk a few blocks and catch the cable car to the wharf and chinatown and such -- only $2. It's close to Hayes Valley area -- a must to visit for the outstanding food and shops. Stelline's is a very genuine small Italian restaurant with GREAT food and GREAT value. Also, the Boxing Room was super. Would eat at both of them again without pause. Too many places to list. And it's only two blocks away!
The Inn at the Opera was wonderful - small charming rooms, but with enough space to relax. It was a bit of stepping back in time, with a charming little elevator that somehow is never slow. Old time open staircase all the way to the 7th floor. Nice complimentary breakfast in the morning. Excellent, friendly, warm, and attentive staff. More than the usual amount of coffee available in the room, in a standard-size coffee maker. Frig. We will undoubtedly return.
