“Great hotel great location tiny beds though!”

This hotel is right outside the gates to china town and a short walk to cable cars (5 mins) also right but a BART station although we never used this. Its easy enough to walk to union square and market from here too. The hotel is nice and clean staff seemed nice too. Beds were quite small though and the radiators started making funny noises about 3 in the morning in both mine and our friends room even though they werent on, also we found rooms to be very warm but then we dont like to be hot at night. The rooms were nice and clean and when they were made up you got a towel animal on your bed which is a nice touch. this hotel is great value for money.

“great value”

Inexpensive, clean, good location, nicely decorated. Rooms were small by US standards but Europeans wouldn't call them small.

Very good value for money. You'd have to have very high standards or be very rich to feel uncomfortable or unhappy with this hotel.

“Great location, good old fashioned hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I booked this hotel based on the feedback rating on Expedia and various other sites and wasn't disappointed in what I got, based on the reviews. It very much reminded me of some old fashioned British hotels I have stayed in at seaside resorts.
The door system is still operated by keys as opposed to a modern card system.
There were renovations going on in the reception area during my stay, but for the small amount of time I was actually in the hotel, this was of no inconvenience or hindrance to myself.
The staff were very friendly, very helpful and keen to assist in any questions about public transport, restaurants, bars etc.
Hotel is ideally placed for shopping. Perfect for a bag drop before returning to the shops.
Hotel is also ideally placed for public transport. The BART and MUNI system runs from just a couple of blocks away, likewise the Cable Cars, Street Cars and bus system. If you are fit, then anywhere is walkable.
If you are expecting all mod cons, breakfast, dinner, flashy rooms, AC, multi channel satellite TV on flat screen HD TV then book somewhere else.
If you are looking for a step back in time and somewhere to just crash for a night or a few nights, and to eat out daily then go for it.
Free Wifi was a great bonus, allowing me to check in with home on a nightly basis and keep up to date with everything.
I was over for a 49ers and Sharks games and it was ideal for me.
Great location, close to public transport, close to bars, restaurants and shops.
The Friday and Saturday nights were quite loud outside and the hotel and coffee bar opposite seemingly work through the night, so there was some noise from that as well as the bin men who turn up very early in the morning.
The rest of the week was reasonably quiet though.
Also enjoyed the towel origami that I had on a daily basis. Part of the fun of the stay was when returning to the room each evening, wondering what animal I would have! If you have young kids, or are easily pleased like myself, then you will enjoy that!
I would return to this hotel.

“Great value location and shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This hotel is a very easy walk from BART and bus system that will take you just about anywhere. It is also possible to walk 'FLAT' no hills to Fishermans wharf it takes about 20 minutes, but is a safe and scenic walk.

Some of the best shopping I have have ever experiences on the same street and surrounding streets. The hotel is a small boutique hotel and doesn't have a breakfast or anything super special, except a lot of charm, extremely clean and great freindly staff.

Room Tip: I was on 9th floor front of hotel. Beautiful small room
