I usually stay at chain hotels (Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott) because they are typically consistent in their rooms and standards. I was a little concerned about the Columbus Motor Inn despite all the good reviews. Let me tell you, the excellent reviews are totally on the mark! This place is an absolute gem. When we arrived the guy at the front desk was extremely friendly. The hallway looked as though it had been recently shampooed. Our room (315) was spotless and looked to be recently renovated. Big windows and wonderful views on the Columbus street side, even if you do get some traffic noise (which didn't bother us). The beds were super comfortable with excellent linens. Bathoom was just fine, with good towels, good quality soap/shampoo and was also very clean with reasonable shower pressure. Our room also had two beautiful flat screen TV's and wifi that worked very well. Location is outstanding, plus they have free parking. It is walking distance to tons of restaurants, fishermen's wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, as well as the famous Lombard street. If I had to say anything negative at all it would be that I'd like a little more lighting in the room, but the lighting was still perfectly adequate.

This was our second stay at the Columbus Motor Inn. It is in a good location, just a block from the more expensive Fisherman's Wharf hotels. We walked to the Coit Tower, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf (5 min.) and even back from Union Square one nice day. The rooms are nicely furnished, including a table and flat screen TV, and the bathrooms are large and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful, parking is included in the room rate. Breakfast is not included, but the front desk recommended Pat's Cafe around the corner and it was great.

Stayed here for two nights in early January 2012. The location of this place is fantastic. It's close to Fisherman's Wharf, and the parking in the garages is easy. The lobby staff recommended several good restaurants, and we never had any trouble. Definitely request a quiet room away from the street for a peaceful night's rest!

This is my 3rd stay here. We stayed in a 1 King 1 Queen room. The room is spacious room with the king bed is located in the main area while the queen bed in a separate room. It's nice to have a small dinning table with chairs on top of the usual furniture.

As mentioned in other posts, there is no parking charge. It is conveniently located within walking distance to starting point of Powell-Mason cable car, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 33 for Alcatraz Cruises. Bus #30 can be taken in front of the inn to take you to Chinatown. Pat's cafe is just round the corner we ate breakfast there 3 days in a row.

I requested for a quiet room and got one that faces an internal courtyard. I guess one cannot ask for quietness and view at the same time here.

Will stay here again if I visit San Francisco.
