We had a lovely quick 3 night getaway to the Turtle Bay Resort April 19-22. We chose to stay in the cottages which were just perfect. When we made the reservation, we were disappointed that there were no kings available. That turned out to be our great luck! We were put in Cottage 111, which had two beautiful four poster queen beds. More importantly, it had what we believe is the best view of all the cottages. It's particular building is slanted so that you have both a clear view and privacy on one side, and a full on view of the ocean on the other. We loved sitting on the lanai and watching the surfers, watching the waves, and watching the sunset. Just superb!
We at at Ola for dinner on two nights, and enjoyed it. The food was great, and the service very helpful. Be sure to ask to sit outside and your feet will be in the sand while you eat!
We rented bikes one day and enjoyed exploring the expansive property and near by areas. On our bikes we visited a WWII bunker, sat under a Banyon grove, swam in a secluded cove, and found our way to an offsite fruit stand for a refreshing snack. It was great. We also enjoyed leaving the property to drive just a little bit South to visit Sharks Cove. We snorkeled, and really appreciated the service from the rental stand across the way. So much fun! We also shopped in Historic Haleweia with great variety and beautiful art.
It was a perfect stay until the last night. On that night we were woken up by a very loud beeping sound that sounded like an alarm at about 2:30 am. At first we thought it was a fire alarm, then we checked all of our electronic devices to see if there were alarms going off. We finally realized it was coming from the shower. We turned the water off and on, but it only got louder. We called guest services, and were surprised that they were not surprised or concerned. They recommended running all the water in the bathroom for awhile, and flushing the toilet over and over for an extended period of time. We were told if that didn't work, they would send maintenance.
It was frustrating to be awake for an hour and a half in the middle of the night on our last night of our short getaway from our kids. We were disappointed that no one called to check on us the next morning, and that no one apologized for the inconvenience. Missing a couple hours of sleep in the middle of the night at a high end resort seemed like the kind of thing management would respond to--- but they did not.
Overall, it was a great trip but we were sorry to end our trip exhausted from the lack of sleep.
Final tip: When you go back to the airport, loop around the windward side of the island. Stop at the Valley of the Temples, and then take the H3 back to Honolulu Airport. Even with a stop at the macadamia nut farm and the temple, the drive from TB to the airport only took us about 2 1/2 hours.
