“Very nice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I don't know what hotel some of the other reviewers went to, maybe they just didn't know what to expect. This is a very nice place to stay. You don't need A/C as the fans in all the rooms do a very good job of keeping things cool along with the Trades. I have been there the last 2 years and plan to go back often. The Gazebo is an excellent place to eat-affordable and very good food and generous portions. Yes there is a line most of the day when they are open, 7:30-2:00 but that is because the food is good and fairly priced. If you don't want a line of people at the pool you are lounging by, go to the one higher up on the hill-you can enjoy the hottub next to that pool too. If you are looking for a clean, affordable place to stay that is not where the crowd is, consider the Napili Shores.

Room Tip: I have enjoyed both rooms I have stayed in

“NO SMOKING, No A/C”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Upon checking in, we learned the entire property is designated as non-smoking. I have no problem not smoking inside the unit, but having to walk out to the street to the nearest, and only, "smoking site" is extreme...then to find no ashtrays, shade, or seating...unless you sit on the jagged lava wall.

The next surprise was the lack of air conditioning. I sleep better in a cool room, so hours after I wanted to retire, it had cooled enough that I could eventually fall asleep.

Due to the lack of a/c, the ground floor sliding glass door had to remain open to get the maximum airflow. That did not encourage a deep, sound sleep. Nor did the click, click, click of the ceiling fan in the bedroom.

As to privacy, forget it. I am now sitting near the middle of the living room and looking into ten other living rooms, on two floors. Abouth thirty yards away, the older couple on their lanai (patio) look through our living room, kitchen, hallway to the bathroom, and into our bedroom. The only curtains are heavy and coated, with no shear curtains to allow privacy and still have ventilation.

Oh, the bedroom window opens to the parking lot, so car doors being closed are the urban version of a rooster. Thankfully, the baby in the next unit sleeps through the night.

The unit is adaquately furnished and well maintained, but I will not be back.

“Great if you don't need A/C”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I am way behind on this review, but I want to give it anyway. This was place was great, and good for families even though it was just adults that went. Has a great breakfast restaurant on site. The only think I did not like was no A/C, if the trade winds don't blow, It get's too warm. If you don't care about A/C it's great. This isn't a hotel it's probably a condo conversion. If you want 4-5 star stay at the Ritz.

Room Tip: We had a one bedroom garden suite. It was very pretty sitting on the lanai overlooking the waterfal...

“It's a matter of taste”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

One of the biggest problems with these reviews is, it depends on who is reviewing, what their level of comfort is, expectations, economic level etc. is.
Napili Shores is a low rise, motel style, privately owned condos. At one point, I am sure they were just rentals. If your into the 2-3 star level of accommodation, then you will be happy here. There are two pools and a variety of people and kids at all times. When I sat on the beach lounge chair, my butt went right through it because the plastic was broken. This is kind of the level of what to expect. If your neighbors are noisy, then you will have problems, the units are right next to each other and you have to be comfortable with dealing with noise.
The units vary hugely, depending on who owns them, some have been redone, some have not.
The beach is nearby and that is a definite plus.
The Gazebo restaurant is also there, so be prepared to have lots of tourists line up every day right by the pool you are sitting at. Gazebo is very popular, they serve huge amounts of low quality food at cheap prices!
There are lots of bargains out there in Maui, but you have to do your work to find them. Again, if you are happy with average to low quality accommodation, then Napili Shores is for you.
Trust me on this. If you want an upscale, quiet environment, then don't go there!

Room Tip: Do your due diligence and check out these motel style rooms in advance, they vary a lot, depending o...

Ninety of the units at Napili Shores are in the Outrigger Rental Program. Those units are similarly furnished and maintained to Outrigger standards. They feature new appliances, granite counter tops, new furniture, tile flooring and new carpeting, furnished kitchen with stove, microwave, dishes, and utensils.

If you are looking for a high rise cookie cutter hotel environment, then we are not your best choice. On the other hand if you are looking for low rise, well maintained accommodations reflecting the true Aloha values of Hawaii situated on one of the most beautiful bays on Maui, then we are a good choice at any price.

“Kapalua on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Recently took part in a wedding at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua but decided not to stay at the Ritz due to the price. Ended up splitting a little rental condo at Napili Shores with 2 friends. It was tight for 3 guys, but met our needs just fine. The interior wasn't much to speak of. Very simple, very small.

But the location more than made up for it, and split three ways, it was very inexpensive.

The restaurant on site is so popular for breakfast that we actually never ate there (the lines were just ridiculous). You can walk down from the place to a gorgeous, popular beach. The front desk helped us get paddle boards and snorkel gear as well.

The Ritz was certainly much nicer and with far more service, but location-wise Napili Shores was actually better, mostly because it was easier to access the beach.
