“Amazing Family Resort in Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Our family really enjoyed our stay at this resort. It's just such a perfect family resort right on the famous Kaanapali beach and only a short walk away from Whaler's Village. The hotel has a great pool with a water slide, waterfall and kids play area. I've read some of the other reviews and noticed that the ones that weren't positive were generally from people that stayed in the older part of the hotel. The hotel itself (which was converted into a timeshare) does feel a little dated and I can understand some of the complaints. However, if you book either of the 2 new towers, they were purpose built as timeshares just a couple years ago and are VERY nice. If you're like us and travel with kids, it is so nice to stay in a 2 bedroom unit with a washer and dryer, kitchen and a separate room to put the kids in. Parking was a little tight, but we really didn't leave the resort that often. I put some more details about this resort on our travel blog: www.worldfamilytravellers.blogspot.com.

“Right on the Ka'anaplai Beach walking path!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The Marriott Maui Ocean Club, formally a Marriott Hotel, now converted to a timeshare property. The property has four towers. The towers on each end of the property are newer and contain suites with full kitchens while the older towers in the center of the property contain suites with mini kitchens (microwave, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster and blender, there is no stove or stove top). We stayed in a one bedroom in one of the older towers. Bedroom was large with a comfortable king bed, bathroom and large screen flat TV. We overlooked one of the pools and had a partial view of the ocean. Living room/kitchen area had a comfortable sleeper sofa, bathroom and a smaller flat screen TV. The units were quite. Not once did we hear any noise from adjoining units or units above us. There is a large gym facility open 24 hours. Use room key for access. There is a free laundry facility on site. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We had two maintenance issues and those issues were addressed within minutes of our call. This resort only has one restaurant, Longboards, which is only open for supper, however, there is a full service Starbucks on site and restaurant facilities at surrounding resorts and the Whalers Village are an easy walk away. We did attend the timeshare sales presentation and found the sales rep to be very friendly and not pushy. Just south of Ka'anapli Beach is Lahaini with it's shopping, restaurants and boat harbour. We ate a some great places - The Plantation House, Merriman's, Hula grill, Leliani's, Kimos, Dukes.

“Overpriced with rude staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

For the price, you don't get much - there are better deals on the island. Thought the staff was very snooty and rude, especially the security people - I called to report my daughter's cut foot from sliding down the kiddie-pool slide (she landed in the pebbles at the bottom and something down there sliced the bottom of her foot open!) They must have thought I was out for something, because they got very defensive and tried to put the blame on me. Really! I simply reported it so they could check for sharp objects so it didn't happen to anyone else, despite me telling them that over and over they kept telling me it was her fault. Sad what this world is coming to, but I expected much better facilities and service based on the price of the rooms.

“Good hotel for a relaxing vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here for a week in Nov '11. This is a great hotel for families with young kids. The Pirate ship, the beach and the pool can keep you and your kids occupied for a long time.

Do note that the beach in this area of town is quite small although the beach in front of Marriott is shorter than that in front of other properties.

The view & the experience can be quite spectacular if you can get one of the ocean front rooms.

There are a variety of different rooms here and some only offer partial kitchens. So, please check in advance and plan accordingly.

Room Tip: Ask for the ocean front rooms in the Lahaina towers on an upper floor.
