Rented through vrbo and got a nicely decorated roomy and clean 1BR unit at a great rate. Thanks to the owner!! As other said, the view especially the sunset is superb and I can't agree more! I know that many people buy CD that plays wave sound to soothe them to sleep, but maybe since I am a "city" person and light sleeper who is not used to the sound of wave, the wave get pretty loud especially at night when it is high tide. I have to wear ear plugs in order to fall asleep. I just wish that they have installed a better soundproof balcony glass door in the bedroom. The glass windows in the living room has much better soundproof.

Also I was glad to book through the owner instead of using Mahana. I find the people at the reception area not too helpful. The owner told us to bring recycling glasses/bottles to the reception area when we checked out and so we did. However, when we talked to the receptionist, she doesn't seem to know why we brought the recycling bottles down. And when I pass them the bag of plastic bottles, she does not want to take it at all with the attitude that as if I was passing her some dirty/stinky trashes and asked me to just throw on the floor... One thing I have to praise is their cleaning staff, I saw them always sweeping the floor and keeping the hotel area very clean and well maintained.

Another limitation is the shore right in front of the hotel is pretty rocky and wave pretty strong when it is high tide so it is no suitable for swimming at all. Also the supermarket nearby is not really within walking distance especially if you are carry heavy groceries. So everytime when we need to go get something we have to drive although it is just less than 3 mins drive...

They also claimed to have Free High Speed Internet maintained by hotel not individual owner. However, the speed is no where near High. There is one day we had to stay in to log on to the internet to do some work, and throughout the day the signal strength was either low or very low. Takes forever to load a webpage and sometimes the signal is so low that IE just throws cannot connect error.

I would recommend the hotel because of the view and the unit but not the hotel service, so better off rent through vrbo.

We rented #216 at the Mahana from the owner for 5 nights. When we walked into the condo, it looked like we were floating on the water because the ocean is so close! Beautiful views from the living room, lanai, and MBR. The condo is updated with stainless steel and granite and furnished very attractively, obviously with great care and love. It's a 1BR 1 BA unit that was spacious and comfortable and had a large flat screen tv. There is a large shower and no tub, which is fine with us. This is a great location, easy driving distance or 1/2 hour walk from Whalers Village. There is no beach immediately in front, but you can go in the water just a few minutes either direction from the building. The sunsets from the condo were fantastic! Sophie, the owner, was wonderful to work with; she has prepared a large notebook with area information and suggestions. She also left us a yummy gift basket. If we are lucky enough to return to Maui, we would definitely rent this unit again. On the north end of Kaanapali Beach.

We chose the Aston Mahana off the internet based on the ocean view and the kitchen. We couldn't have been more pleased with the view and the sound of the surf. The surf was so loud we actually slept with the door closed and still heard it. The balconies are very private with wonderful sunset views. The hotel was extremely clean. There were people cleaning around the clock. There is a boardwalk starting right next to the hotel which takes you all the way down the beach past Black Rock so it's perfect for a morning or evening stroll. They have a tennis court to use at no charge, as well as a pool and shuffleboard. Swimming right off the hotel isn't great as there is coral, but a short walk on the beach takes you to a wonderful swimming location. Parking was no problem at all. Desk staff was helpful and professional. There is a nice grocery store across the street, and great grills available on a tiled area outside. The only thing we didn't like was that our room (504) was very dated. It was clean, but looked like it was decorated circa 1980. They are individually owned so I am sure there are nicer ones. I would stay there again though for sure.

It was our first visit to the islands and we couldn't have picked a better hotel. The view was the best we could have asked for -- overlooking the ocean and amazing sunsets every evening! It was very clean but the decor a little dated -- we didn't come to Maui to stay in the room so that was not a big deal!! The staff was very accommodating. We were first placed in a ground level unit and asked if they had anything higher (12 floors) -- we did get a fourth floor room which was more to our taste. They had some construction project on the outside of the units but they were only working during the day when we were out exploring the island so it didn’t bother us. We had a full kitchen which gave us the option of eating in if we wanted. The rooms have a washer and dryer in case you don’t want to pack much. We rate this as one of our best ever finds!!
