“Depends on the room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We checked in and our first room was horrible...literally! The room was dingy, smelled and dirty! We spoke to staff (who were not as friendly as hoped) and the 2nd room was not much better...so then a 3rd room which was average. The third had no carpet and just tile which made the room feel more comfortable. The two rooms before had carpet and were gross. This is of no fault of anyone but the owners as it is a owner owned condo. Soooo, be prepared when you check in because you won't know what you're going to get! We paid about 260 a night so the third room was worth that because the owner took care of the condo. The first two rooms were a rip off for that much money. Good luck and I hope you get a good room! The grounds were nice, the pool was nice and parking was fairly easy. The beach access was close and nice as well (not too rocky). If we would've checked into the third room first, our experience would've been better. We eventually left early and went to another condo (the Honua Kai). The first two rooms left such a bad taste in our mouths we had to leave.

Room Tip: Be sure to see your room before you accept it...if it stinks, they will find you a better one.

We're sorry to learn that the individual, owner renovated units shown to these guests didn't meet with their approval. If you book through Aston, you will have the peace of mind of knowing that there are consistent standards and that if for some reason your expectations are not met by what you see, you will have an opportunity to choose from hundreds of others with varying locations and views. Aston will work with you until you are happy and satisfied....

“Great Place for a Family Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

These condos were a perfect spot for a family of 11 to vacation. Everything that we wished to do was either right on site (scuba, massages, surf lessons) or very near. The pools & hot tubs were lovely and well kept, and the beach was very accessible. My only (slight) complaint was that there weren't very many pots & pans or serving utensils, but then we just combined the two condos we had rented...which, by then way, although not connecting were very close & convenient. The staff & service was excellent, and I would come here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: This resort/condo hotel is well situatated with comfortable rooms, beautiful grounds, helpful and fr...

“The Good and the Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The Good..The beach, the grounds, the location and the weather. Also the Expedia Trip advisor.

The OK... Room 439... a bit shop worn... poorly equipped kitchen.. a wine opener but no wine glasses, a skillet but no spatula... 4 cups - count 'em!

The Bad... Weak Internet connection... which is apparently OK with Hotel Management who are aware of the problems but not willing to invest in a remedy. The Beach Restaurant...I had trouble distinguishing the fish from the chicken. Duke's down the beach was great. The Check Out... incorrectly calculated my final check out account.

We appreciated the feedback this guest provided. In researching this, we found that the guests who stayed within the unit before them were traveling with others who were roomed nearby. When we visited the other room, we found the missing kitchen items in it. I guess they had a get together in that "other" room and the items were never returned. Our "bad" for not catching this and returning them prior to these guests arriving.

We were particularly disappointed to read of their comments regarding the Beach Club restaurant. Most folks really enjoy the food selections, portions and fmaily style pricing. The staff are normally recipients of praise and our many returning guests know them by name...and vice-versa.

We had some equipment replaced which seems to have brought our Internet access back on-line at acceptable speeds.

Mahalo.

“Relaxing Resort Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

My husband, 1 year old, & I stayed for 8 days at Kaanapali Shores. It was the perfect place for a low key, relaxed holiday with family. The actual resort exceeded our expectations - the room was super tidy, comfortable, & updated with an awesome ocean view (7th floor). The grounds were beautiful with two lovely pools and a nice beach (shade in the morning!) with plenty of swimmable areas & lots of people boogie & paddle boarding. The vibe was excellent - very relaxed & family friendly. Very nice staff. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that the restaurant food did not match the quality of the resort - we ended up going down the beach to Duke's for most of our meals or eating in our place (which is easy to do since there is a lovely, well stocked kitchen).

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing towards the courtyard with an ocean view so as to see the beautiful sunsets...

“honeymooning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This place is beautiful. They have a gorgeous lobby, walkways, and comfortable rooms. We considered having honeymoon photos taken here as they have their own photographers available and gorgeous packages to choose from but we didn't budget for this. Next time! There is a supermarket across the street so you don't have to stop at the crowded Safeway on the way here if you don't want to. It came in handy for picking up last minute items, groceries, and just a place to hang out once everything else in the area is closed. LOL

Our room was a honeymoon upgrade to partial ocean view but there was a giant palm tree in the way. No problem for us though since we had things to do and places to go. The kitchen has plates, utensils, cups, pots and pans, sample size dishsoap, sample laundry detergent (more available at their gift shop), and a dishwasher! Hooray! We did set everything in the dishwasher prior to using just in case and then went off to the beach. The only problem was the bed was OLD and possibly broken. Too many honeymooners there??? It creaked every time we moved in our sleep and would wake us up. We forgot about the sofabed convertible or we would have tried sleeping there instead. Walking the grounds at night, we came across a few new amphibian friends. Yes, there are frogs here! Our last night there was also a baby lizard in our living room watching tv with us. That little guy was taken back outside.

Check out the Activity guides (airport & hotel) prior to going to their Activity Desk. We snagged a much better price booking a ziplining appointment this way than going through their agent for Piiholo Ranch.
