“Perfect location, and great space!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

We stayed in Unit 301, which is a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath. We LOVED the master bedroom suite with the lanai to ourselves. We brought daughter, son-in-law, and our two beautiful granddaughters of 3 and 4.5. The 3 bedroom layout was perfect for us. The kids could stay up late and not bother us. The twin room is downstairs so bring a baby monitor.

The beach here is lovely. A little rocky for the tender footed. Lovely little surf because there's a reef that breaks most of it. Great for the little kids, and adults alike who want to soak it up.

This unit needs some upgrading, which is why we only gave it a 4 out of 5; kitchen is old, and so are the bathrooms. The 2nd bedroom bathroom upstairs leaked into the kitchen through a ceiling vent so we had to keep a towel on the floor at all times. The Pergo flooring is delaminating a bit. But all-in-all it was great. We would recommend it to our friends, and we're definitely coming back.

“amazing condo on the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2010

95 dollars for a beautiful one bedroom condo on the beach on maui !! we stayed in unit 202 which they told us was just fully remodeled and I have to believe it. EVERYTHING looked brand new. FREE PARKING !! private balcony overlooking beautiful private beach. (the waves can be loud at night though) little extras like coolers and snorkel equipment really made it over the top great.

“Worked out great for our family!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

Our family stayed at the Makani Sands from June 10-June 20, 2010. We stayed on the third floor since it had 3 bedrooms and we had 6 people. The building is a little dated but the location, layout and the facilities worked out great for us.
We had everything we needed in the room, WiFi, full kitchen, cable, washer dryer, etc.
We were right on the beach. While there was not a lot of beach, our chairs were on the concrete just above the beach. The best of both worlds. The pool is by the parking lot which was a bummer. Although we were only in it a couple of times.
It was close to Lahaina and Kaanapali so we drove into those places a lot.
It is not a Taj Majal, but it was economical and worked out great for us.

“The perfect place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

We had a wonderful time at Makani Sands. There were 7 of us in our party and everyone was comfortable. The property was very clean and the other guests were polite and enjoyed talking with them.

We stayed in unit 310, which we later found out from other guests, was the "Penthouse Suite" of the condos.

The views were spectacular, lots of whales and turtles to watch.

I would highly recomend staying here!

“Great View but ants and roaches!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2009

Ants

This is an older small condo complex right on the ocean. No beach, but ocean front. Pool behind the units, so it was very quiet the entire time. We were in a corner unit, Unit 210, which had a huge lanai, which was the best thing about the accommodation. The other units have much smaller lanai’s. There was also complimentary high-speed internet.

Our unit was badly in need of updating. Old green carpeting in both bedrooms, tacky furniture throughout. However, the bed was very comfortable! There is so much stuff in the unit, furniture, fake plants, pillows in the dresser drawers, knick-knacks, and a large telescope, that you have no space. It is a 2 bedroom unit, but there was only 2 of us and it felt cramped. Luckily, we had the extra bedroom to put things in. But the biggest problem was ants. We couldn’t get rid of the ants. All the food had to be kept in the refrigerator. We sprayed and put out ant traps, but we still had ants in the kitchen and bathrooms. We also found a huge dead cockroach when we arrived, but nothing until a week later. Then we had 2 of the biggest roaches I’ve ever seen running around the living room and another dead roach in the bathroom. There is no maid service provided until you have stayed for 14 days. We have been coming to Maui for many years and have stayed at Maui Kai, Hololani (our favorite), Napili Sunset, Hale Napili, Napili Surf and a few others, and this is by far the worst place we stayed. We never had ants or roaches at any of these places. We won’t be staying at Makani Sands again.
