“Kahana Beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The property is right on the beach so it's a short trip to the water...other than that it is pretty average. Nice clean room, okay for two (studio). This property is pitched as all ocean front rooms. They are not. If you get the *01-*02 rooms as we did, then you are on the end and get "ocean view". Which means you get a view to the North up the beach from your lenai and get to look at the Sands of Kahana next door. Not that bad of a view mind you, but not ocen front. If you are in one of these end rooms below the sixth floor you get a palm tree view and not much else.

The beds...if you like comfort in a bed look elsewhere. The Murphy bed is a big futon, and is Very Firm! The hide a bed is a box of springs with some cloth over them.
By the end of a week I was thinking that sleeping on the sand or in the car would be a better choice than the bed. If the beds were better I would make a return to the Kahana Beach for the location and the price but I couldn't see going back the way it is. The rest...the pool is small and almost never used, the hot tub has a view of the ocean but isn't very hot and not very apealling. Staff was pleasant enough but nothing more than average.

“For the price, you can't beat it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed here for two nights at $150.00 a night from Hotel.com. Um, cant beat it for the low price. Our room had a murphy bed it it, which was pretty comfortable. Our view was a corner view but we could still see the ocean by stepping onto the balcony. If you are looking for a large room, with few frills and a great ocean view. This will work just fine.

“It's good and average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

we got an oceanfront room for around 170 dollars a night. The room is big but sort of old, but doesn't smell or anything like that. We got a room with a kingbed and queen sofabed, The kingbed is a pullout/fold into the wall kind of bed, and is actually comfy. Although the hotel doesn't compete with the hotels near kaanapalii beach/ black rock, it is way more affordable. If you want to buy stuff from the grocery stores such as fresh fruit, seafood, and meat, and cook it yourself this hotel is perfect for that. There are plates, cups, cuttlery. There is a medium sized fridge(you'll have plenty of space), electric stove, microwave, coffee machine, but no oven(no problem), there is an outdoor barbecue that might look sort of dirty on the outside, but is really clean on the inside. There is air conditioning and you have to pay for wifi, or just go to mcdonalds. The hotel itself is close to black rock, and is pretty central with a farmers market very close to it (go there it's fresh and cheap) The ocean right outside can be a little rough and is probably not great for kids. The ocean also is a little loud in an oceanfront room but is bearable. The staff will change your towels every four or three days or something like that. We didn't get our bed sheets changed for some reason. But you can also ask for towels and sheets.
We had no regrets going to this hotel because we were out most of the time.

Room Tip: choose this hotel, if you're going to be out a lot

“Mixed Feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I have very mixed feelings about this property. We are definitely the type that likes to sit on the lanai and look at the ocean so in that respect this property is ideal. The oceanfront views are unsurpassed. We had a corner unit which allowed for 180 degree views for whale watching. I will just shortly state the pros and cons of this building.
Pros: Views, free parking, beach is perfect, turtles everywhere, market is close, friendly staff and free burgers on Monday, room was pretty clean except for a few rug stains
Cons: SMOKING IS ALLOWED ON LANAI (NASTY), the doors always slam, murphy beds are uncomfortabl if you weigh more than 130 lbs (fine for me but husband was very uncomfortable), no maid service except for change of towels and garbage out, no drawers to put clothes in just a closet, no safe
We stay at all different types of hotels, condos and timeshares so we are not to picky. I would probable come back to this place but would not stay more than a week. I think that is as long as I could put up with the murphy bed, smoking and slamming doors.
I would recommend this place to someone who is only concerned with the view other than that you should stay somewhere else if you are looking for comfort and quality.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor

“As a renter (non timeshare owner), this place is homey but as an owner the accommodations and room locations provided are much n”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

We have stayed here several times over the past four years and like it.

The studio rooms are small and a bit worn (murphy bed had seen better days but was decent) but roomy enough for two people. We love the view from oceanview rooms and the conveniences of an outdoor grill, small pool and sandy beach which is perfect if you have kids.

The location of Kahana Beach Resort is much further from Lahaina than they tell you when booking so a car is necessary unless you want to pay for taxis. There is a bus stop nearby if you want to save some money....

I have no real complaints other than the "mid-week room refresh" should include tidying the room in addition to giving the renter fresh towels.

All in all, this resort is a decent value for the money on Maui. Just remember this is not a full service resort like you will find in Kaanapoli or Wailea or Makena. If you want those types of comforts, book elsewhere.

Thank you for making Kahana Beach your home away from home. We’re glad you enjoyed the wonderful view from your comfortable (750 square feet) studio. There’s nothing better than grilling before a scenic ocean vista on a mild evening and hearing the roar of waves offering a thunderous counterpoint to the sizzle of the barbecue. For our midweek service we empty the trash and replenish the towels and amenities. Rooms are cleaned once a week. We apologize if we did not meet your standards. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you again soon.
