Interior decor phenomenal, unit extremely clean. Very comfortable. Lanai unbelievable, steps away from the ocean, you can hear the crashing of the waves 24 hrs. around the clock, even from the bedroom. Another unit owner complained about filthy carpets and ants everywhere - same floor - she rented directly from the Ashton Paki Maui Association which runs the front desk. With Unit 408, you have nothing to worry about! Only 3 minor downsides - insignifcant in the grand scheme of things - a long walk to the bbq's by the pool; no oven (we love to cook!); and the beautiful Bali sink in the kitchen looks very attractive but takes forever to drain and you need to use a plunger (provided) constantly. You are very close to - walking distance - to general merchandise stores, a fantastic costume jewellery store right across the street owned by a local (largest inventory of jewellery I've ever seen/carries dresses and giftware as well), photographer's artwork shop, farmer's market right across the street 3 mornings/week, health food store across the street, Boss Frog's across the street (for all your ocean rentals - pay the extra & rent the snorkel with the repurge feature - $25/week - it's worth it/flippers included-if you run out of defogger, they'll give you more for free...). Pizza Hut across the street (if you have kids...), and a FANTASTIC fish taco stand that comes to the lot across the street at 6 pm on weekdays, also frequented by the locals. Thinking of going Hawaiian and getting a tattoo? Highly recommend the tattoo shop right across the street as well, they used to have a shop in L.A. and the owners are REALLY REALLY GOOD - far superior artwork/quality of tattoo than most. Good location as a base - Whaler's Village just over a 5 min. drive away; park in the free visitor's spots and watch the sunrise on the beach, see the cliff diving off Sheraton's Black Rock. Hula Grill has great music and the best sandy beach "bar" - wear your slippers.
Tons of beaches everywhere...just drive in any direction... don't miss the blow hole - take the highway North, you'll see all the cars parked.
The people at Paki Maui are friendly, welcoming, smile a lot. We stayed at Kaanapali Shores for our 2nd week (not by choice, Paki was booked) and found the complete opposite. The Paki felt like our "home away from home", Kaanapali Shores felt like a hotel.
We would not hesitate to stay at the Paki again. We saw huge green sea turtles from our lanai at 9 a.m. in the mornings, great snorkeling right out front if you wear your reef shoes. Public beach/park right next door as well. We were not there during whale season, and can only imagine how phenomenal the view from the lanai would be then!
Jacuzzi didn't work the whole time we were there and one of us got a bad rash from soaking in it, so we only went in it once. Unit owner promised to speak to management and have fixed asap - this would NOT deter our staying here again! The staff worked hard to keep the grounds orderly, well-kept and super clean - constantly!
Room Tip: Book privately, make sure you stay 3rd floor or higher for the best view. Negotiate with condo rent...

Aloha and mahalo for your comments and all of the great tips for future guests to Paki Maui.
I did just want to clear up the fact that we at "Aston" do staff the front desk however we only manage 58 of the 108 units here at Paki Maui.
All of the units in our rental program need to maintain certain standards and we constantly work with our owners to make sure this is the case. On the fourth level near your unit 408 we only manage two units and I know that both have tile and not carpeting. It definitely could have been a unit either privately managed or one of the timeshare units here.
We definitely agree that our location is perfect being steps from the ocean however I think that with the intimate size of the property the pool/barbecue cabana area is conveniently located to all of our units. As you mentioned the property itself is also near many shopping and dining options also.
Yes, the entire staff here at Paki Maui are anxious to show the Aloha Spirit to all of our guests and as mentioned often the sea turtles and during the winter months, whales are also waiting to say hello.
We are confident yourselves or any future guests will be just as happy with the property and any of the Aston units where we provide daily housekeeping, front office services, have maintenance on property and complimentary safe, local calls and high speed internet access.
Mahalo again for all of your great comments and we look forward to you joining us at the Paki Maui again.
Brian
