We had a wonderful time at the Hololani back in March, 2011. We flew in the same day as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, but everything was operating normally at the resort by the time we arrived. If you're looking for a fancy resort-like atmosphere with lots of activity and noise, this wouldn't be the place for you, but we much prefer quiet and laid-back accommodations, so this was the perfect place for us! Our room (A301) was gorgeous, with granite countertops, new living room furniture, great appliances, comfortable bedding, etc. The front bedroom was wonderful, with a sliding glass door that we left open all night to hear the ocean, while the back bedroom was HUGE and had a comfy king bed. We were able to watch whales right from our lanai, and also saw giant sea turtles right down the steps by the beach. If I had to name one drawback, that would be that there wasn't much of a beach right in front of our resort, but since we rarely stayed at our condo during the day and instead were doing activities off-site, this wasn't a problem for us. It was also handy to be able to quickly walk to nearby shopping and food, including a convenience store, Senor Frogs for snorkeling equipment, a coffee shop, etc. I would definitely stay at this resort again.
