“Poor value”

This was our 4th stay, but first since ownership changed, and will be our last time. There have been renovations, and for us the only upside of that was a nice redo on a bathroom. The downsides are plentiful. No closet in the room (#5), one dresser that was so mildewed that you could smell it coming into the room, so we had to live out of suitcases and hanging clothes on a hook on the wall. The room had no chair to sit in, no lighting except the overhead. Even the common area that was a nice feature in the past was gone, so no fridge to keep items in, no lounging area, no breakfast snacks, no board game area. The Lahaina Inn would be better described now as a fancy youth hostel, not a place to relax. Save your money, there are much better choices in Lahaina for less than what this place charges.

We love this place! Very laid back and friendly. We are not "high maintainence" guests, so this was perfect for us. Not for you if you expect someone to be at your beck and call. No ice machine, soda machine, etc, but a truly beautiful place. We would not hesitate to stay again.

“Bad Manners”

This hotel for the price is good value the other reviews are correct about the noise etc, but we did'nt find it to to disturbing' or the room size an issue.

What I do object to is the manner of the only staff member that we have seen, a lady with short blonde hair. She is extermlely rude to the point of obnoxuois. So stay at the hotel if you do'nt mind being this spoken to by a grumpy staff me member. if the management fixed this problem it would be a four star for the value.

“Very poor service, don't stay!”

Myself and my partner stayed here in Summer '10, when we arrived there was nobody at reception desk (as is the case after 5pm every day). When lady eventually appeared she was snappy and not welcoming at all, while it was clean, our room was tiny with a large single bed when we had asked for a double room, when I asked about this I was met with the same cross and snappy tone that was prevalent everytime we encountered the lady of the house. We were woken by the sound of power washers and bin lorries on the street outside at 4am. One evening on our return from dinner we entered the inn to find a man and woman who appeared to be high on drugs or alcohol sitting in the lobby, as there was no staff present we felt quite vunerable and questioned the security of the establishment. Over this hotel was way over priced and delivered very bad customer service.

Aloha. Please note that on Sept. 1, 2010, the Lahaina Inn re-opened under new management by Hawaiian Hotels & Resorts, who also manage the Royal Lahaina Resort. The front desk at Lahaina Inn is this hotel is open from 11 AM until 7 PM. However 24 hour management and security assistance is available. Mahalo.

“Loud and noisy - "how do they spell the word service?"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2010

Being our first time on Hawaii, we chose Maui as our central island, and Lahaina as our central spot for travelling the whole island of Maui by car. A great place! We chose the Lahaina Inn, as it has been recommended several times in the Internet. After having been there, we cannot quite follow such recommendations. We stayed there for 7 nights in the Mauka Suite. The word "Suite" is not just what we understand it was: just one normal room with a king-size bed and a balkonee. But ok.
When choosing a hotel so centrally placed, one would not complaint about noise from bars around, or drunk people on the street, having fun. The trouble arouse the next morning: at exaktly 5:15 a.m. we were thrown out of the bed by a vulkanoe. It turned out to be the trash removal van, directly under our room. This was repeated every single following day - including Christmas - always between 5:15 and 6:00 a.m. The trash car was reliably followed by many other vans or trucks unloding stuff for the shops and restaurants neighboring Front St. So, at least we were early awake to start our aktivities over the island ...
The front desk of the "Lobby", only be manned from 8 a.m. To 8 p.m., only very scarcely took note of us, when we were entering or leaving the hotel. A simple "How wre you?" was not granted. If you really have a problem - or simply a question - the front desk reverts you to the manager at the "Royal Lahaina Resort", 10 miles away, who is doing the management of the Lahaina Inn.

After 7 nights, we had to move to the room next door, room #1, because when we made the reservation, the Mauka suite was already reserved over Christmas. Room #1, also facing to the front, towards Lahainaluna St., -and only having sight of a small part of the ocean, if you move your head by 90 degrees - is about half the size of Mauka suite, scarcely twice the size of the queen-size bed. And having the same problems with the noise as described for Mauka suite before. Plus: we have been "lucky" to neighboring a female couple in room #2, sitting on the balkonee of their room in the night both after midnight, as well as in the morning as just wakened by the trash removal at 5:15 a.m., and talking so loud, that we could literally understand every single word of their conversation.

Internet: Wi-Fi is free one hour (which nobody told us), and then costs 9.95 $/day.

Price: for 10 days (7 days Mauka suite and 3 days room #1) we paid over $ 1,800, including a car (economy) and paid parking.

Conclusion: we shall definitely come back to Hawaii, but will certainly be more thoughtful, when chosing a hotel.
