“Best place on Maui”

I can't say enough about this hotel. We've stayed on Maui in a number of places, and this is our favourite. The grounds, the staff, the beach, the view, the location - all are wonderful. It's true that the pool is a little chilly. And the only time I would recommend eating in their restaurant is for breakfast. But their outdoor bar/ grills have wonderful food. The pool is a lot of fun, with a river, a kid's pool, a mini waterslide, and a hot tub. The beach offers both swimming and snorkelling. For walking, you are right in the middle of "the strip", so you can walk the beach walk in either direction to restaurants, shopping, etc. We can't wait to go back.

“Great Location!”

The Sheraton Maui was in a great location. It was an older hotel, but had recently been refurbished. We had to beg for a true ocean view room but we could see the whales from our balcony once we relocated. The spa was also wonderful and very in tune with bringing the outside in. A very relaxing atmosphere. We were sitting in the lobby on our last day waiting for the airport shuttle and saw a mother whale and her baby jumping and playing in the water right off the beach. It was just glorious!
On the down side, we never could get decent pillows and 2 hamburgers with 2 glasses of wine in the bar on the evening of our arrival was $111.00. They should be ashamed of themselves on that count! That was our first night and we later learned that there were some very good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Also have shuttle that will take you to other locations where you are within walking distance of somewhat less expensive restaurants.Overall, I would recommend the Sheraton Maui.

“Great Location!”

The Sheraton on Kaanapali Beach is the perfect location. The beach is beautiful and you can walk to Whaler's Village where a variety of shops and restaurants are easy to find. We registered for an ocean view room, but we were upgraded to a deluxe ocean view room at no cost. We stayed in building 2 on the 4th floor. Lot's of steps as the only elevator was far away from our room, but a great view! The grounds are beautiful, but the pool was freezing! It was too cold to really swim. We would just jump in to cool off and get right out. Brrrrr! The beach was beautiful, but they charge a lot to rent chairs so we stuck by the pool and walked the beach everyday and got in the ocean. A ship was pushed on shore on our third day there so we were not able to use the beach by our hotel for the rest of the week. This was very disappointing, but mother nature was in charge of that. The free shuttle to Lahaina was great! We used it many times to get back and forth from the "downtown" area. Food and drinks are expensive. We had a hamburger by the pool which was yummy, but it was $19.00 for a hamburger and some chips. Soda was $3.50 with one refill. The room was very nice and clean. I would stay at the Sheraton Maui again!

“Nice experience but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We've stayed here three times now--the location on Black Rock in Kaanapali is great. Access to beaches is exceptional and you can snorkel Black Rock and even find Sea Turtles feeding. Nice pool (but very cold) and bar along the beach.

The hotel seems to be in cost savings mode--the service was good when present but too often the staff seemed hurried onto the next task. Don't expect them to take time for the little things and you may end up calling the front desk multiple times (like we did) to have housekeeping items attended to.

Room Tip: Don't be timid about asking for a different room because they vary widely in the same price leve...

“great location”

The Sheraton is on Kaanapali Beach which is hard to beat. It is near golf courses, It is within walking distance of the fancier hotels, shopping and restaurants. There is a walkway which runs parallel to the beach that makes it easy to get to those places. The town of Lahaina is nearby which offers more restaurants and shopping. I had never been to Maui before so enjoyed the tours to the Volcano and Road to Hana. We had an ocean view room so we could watch the divers, the sun sets etc. It was a very positive 8 day experience.
