We stayed at the Napili Sunset when Hale Napili was under construction so unavailable. We were not directly facing the ocean, there was a one-lane road between us and the beach, but it was a very short walk, and we could see a sliver of beach from the deck. We heard the larger units that face the beach directly are nicer. The worst thing about our studio unit was the murphy bed. When in the bed, which ifolds down at night out of a closet, there is no beside lamp, you can't see beyond the closet doors, and if you suffer from claustrophobia, this won't work for you at all. The unit was otherwise fine; basic but clean. One night we were kept awake from about 2 am to 4 am by local partiers. The beach is steep and does not have much shade, but once the waves calmed down it was quite nice. I liked being able to walk to a good trail (starts at Napili Kai - goes for a few miles) and there was fantastic snorkeling by the Napili Point, also an easy walk over the rocks. Couple of good restaurants around, also within walking distance. A small grocery store, Snorkel Bob's and hair/nail salon next door made everything very easy. However, the Napili Sunset's claim to be "World's Top Ten Beachfront Resorts in the World" (the redundancy should tell you something) is laughable. It's not a resort. We liked that.

My family just got back from a week in Maui. We stayed at the Napili Sunset and had a great time. It is an older, dated hotel. The decor is not my taste, but it was very clean and the kitchen was very well stocked. The beach is simply the best around! My children played for hours every day. The staff are excellent, very friendly but not at all intrusive. What I really appreciated is what you see on line on their website, is exactly what you get. There were no surprises. There are laundry facilities with soap and dryer sheets on hand. There are even toys and boogie boards you can borrow. They have thought of everything! The only downside was the tap water- ugh! It was terrible tasting. Make sure you buy drinking water. To those who didn't like Napili Sunset at all, I ask, did you go to Maui to stay in your hotel room all day? Come on people...

My husband and I just got back from a one week stay in room 218 at Napili Sunset. We were disappointed from the minute we pulled up to the place. The outside was run down with a huge ugly dumpster right outside our room. We have stayed next door at Napili Bay (just as old as NS) many times and loved it but thought we would try a different bigger place but this place was sadly run down and in bad need of updating. Broken tiles, bad carpet, peeling wallpaper, the freezer reeked and leaked, the CD player didn’t work. There are timers on the bathroom lights so if you are not careful you will be left in the dark doing your business or taking a shower as I was all soaped up when the lights went out. The timers are on the outside of the bathroom so you have to get out of the room to start it again. The shower door old and decrepit, caulking dirty and torn. Toilet needs replacing, difficult to flush. We were in a one bedroom with loft and it was so hot in the loft no one could sleep there. They have table fans but you have to have them blowing directly on you all night to even be able to tolerate being upstairs. We had our grandchildren come over and they had trouble sleeping there. No air conditioning which is understandable for a beach house but the air flow wasn’t very good in our unit. We are from California and used to the heat. I booked the room in April for an October stay and specifically asked to be in a room and building furthest from the public alleyway and closest to the part of the beach we love near Napili Kai. When we got there we were informed that we were in the opposite end and they were doing construction five days a week so we got to enjoy all the sawing and hammering and loud noises and obstacles we had to wonder through to get to the beach. Also, as one other reviewer mentioned the group of at least 12-16 people (“regulars”) in rooms downstairs seemed to own the place, had a monopoly on the BBQ and all the lounge chairs in front of our unit. I guess Friday is garbage pickup day and with the bedroom window (which you had to have open for air) facing the front and garbage pickup beginning at 5:00 in the morning and ending around 7:00 a.m. with the beep, beep, beep, we just got up at 5:30. For $260 a night it isn’t worth it. Better off spending a few more dollars to stay at Napili Kai or spend even less at Napili Bay Resort studio for $150/night. There is a laundry room in the basement of the office. More of a leaky concrete dungeon but they did have free soap if that makes it worth it. We are not spoiled so I don’t understand the other reviewers who say they loved the place. Maybe if this was your first time to Hawaii you wouldn't know any better and would be mesmerized by the heavenly views of the bay and not care so much about the accommodations. On the plus side, Napili Bay itself is awesome and that is why we come back to Napili Bay year after year but this was our first time at NS . The view from the lanai was spectacular and they did have beach toys to use that you can pick up in the laundry room. The staff was friendly but some of the people staying there were not. I heard that some of the units have air conditioning so I believe they may be individually or jointly owned so it probably makes a difference which condo you get but you wouldn’t know that going to their website. The kitchen did have pots and pans and dishes as I would expect from a condo. The furnishings were fine and typical Hawaiian condo décor. Maid service was spotty and getting into bed sometimes we still had sand on the sheets. They never cleaned the kitchen and I am not talking washing dishes or cleaning up a big mess as we pretty much cleaned up after ourselves but the kitchen was never even touched. We own Worldmark condos which my son and his family stayed in. Wish we could have switched with him because his Worldmark condo was beautiful and cared for. We won’t be going back to Napili Sunset.

We stayed at Napili Sunset for 6 days (October 15 - 22, 2011) and we had a great time. My husband, myself, and our 2 year old shared 1 bedroom, with loft ocean front condo (breath taking view of the turquoise bay and 2 islands). Our accommodation was comfortable,well care for, and was home away from home! The Napili beach was just few steps away from the condo lawn and they also had hot water shower to wash of the sand. This is truly a hidden gem and we will most definitely recommend to our friends & relatives for their next Maui stay!
