“our home away from home”

my family and i stayed at the house of fountains for seven of the best nights ever. The breakfast they provided every morning is fit for a king, and always plenty of it. We had access to a barbecue which is nice, and having it located by the pool is even better. At times it seemed like we had the entire place for ourselves, nice and quiet, but having a breakfast with the other houseguest's was nice. The rooms were comfortable, and kept really clean. Our hostess knowledge of the area and ideas were right on, and she was always in a good mood. We even extended our stay for a night with no problems. We will definitely be staying here again.

“Nice”

First Time Maui visitor and stayed here on my own. Arrival a bit dissapointing, as you think when you arrive in paradise not to drive through questionable area. However, I've learned not to judge by the first impression. The staff were very friendly and the rooms very clean. The ocean view from the Lanai is just stunning and you can sometimes watch a few whales, specially around this time of year.
The House got a very familiar vibe as the owners lives there with her their kids and dog as well as her staff, I guess.
Only downside as non-smoker is that you have to walk through a cloud of smoke if you wanna enter the front door but that's the only negative point.

“Comfortable, Clean, Roomy & Accommodating Hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

We'd stay here again, and I've recommended to my friends, but there are a few comments I've shared with them first.
The owner is originally from Germany and she had a couple of young German women working there. Everyone was friendly, but it seemed the young women weren't comfortable speaking English. They understood us fine and we them. The owner has been in Hawaii for a long time so the worries I've seen in the reviews about language were not an issue for us. I saw on some of the reviews that this was noted as not expected "B&B" behavior. We are sometimes impatient at B&Bs with chatty owners. This is not the case at this location. All interactions were straightforward, complete, but friendly. We received help with all our requests.
If you don't want to use stairs, opt for an upstairs rooms. They are a bit more expensive, but you wouldn't have to carry suitcases down stairs. Had I known this, I would have chosen one of these. But I must say that the stairs are wide and easy to navigate so it didn't turn out to be an issue.
Our room was spacious and clean and opened directly to the pool.
The breakfast was good and they willingly offered to provide it a little early for us on the day we needed to meet the whale watching boat.
It's located in a residential neighborhood, so you would think it would be quiet and it mostly is, but a neighbor has a rooster! Not much that the owner can do about this, and we wanted to get out and about early anyway.
The signs asking for electricity consideration (turn off A/C, and lights) were not a concern for us. We are used to major hotels asking for "green" awareness, and some hotels we've stayed at for international travel require you to have a key inserted near the door to use electricity. I didn't see anyone monitoring use, and the room was not overly warm after being away for a day without the A/C on.
Laundry facilities are clean, and are conveniently located near the rooms and available for a fee. Racks are available to hang wetsuits, swimsuits, etc. near the pool.
Please note that you should bring cash if you don't want to incur a charge to use your credit card. They provide this information to you when you make your reservation, but I had forgotten.

We Have stayed here before and love it so much that when we plan are trips back to Maui we always stay here. It always feels great to see Daniela and Don the Kids and of course Pua. You could not ask for better hosts. and the staff are always very friendly and helpful.
Love the breakfasts and the cleaniness of the house and rooms. Planning our next trip for April 2010, I know we will stay here again.

“Some glitches, but a good option in Lahaina with very nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2009

We spent 3 nights here, making it our base for the exploration of the Maui coast around Lahaina. The place is big, spacious and very clean. It's also full of Hawaiian-style decorations, which makes it quite typical and charming. There's a great swimming pool as well, which excellently makes up for the Jacuzzi which doesn't work (even though probably owners should update the book in the rooms which reports it as usable).

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the very kind Tatjana, who offered us a welcome drink and gave us two nice necklaces made of shells and showed us the property. As many mentioned here on TripAdvisor, the owners are from Germany - some stated it's a problem, but it really wasn't for us (we're Italian and we don't speak German at all). The other guests were all German and at breakfast, the first day, they were speaking in German at the beginning, but that was because they thought we were German as well; when they realized we were not, they actually excused with us and continued the conversation mostly in English.

We stayed in the Hibiscus room, the smallest and most inexpensive one. It was okay, with delightful Hawaiian decorations; it was also big enough and included a safe. It had, however, a couple of relatively small problems: the door of the bathroom was broken, making it effectively a single room with the bedroom; also the mosquito shield in the lanai door had some holes and it didn't properly match the upper wall, which makes it basically useless (mosquitoes pass through easily). It's easy to make up for this by lighting a citronella strip, however also in this case owners should consider fixing the problem (after all, the Hibiscus room is US$150.00+tax per night in February).
There seems to be WiFi Internet access, even though it worked for us only 2 days out of 3 (the signal was then too low): I didn't investigate the thing with the owners, as I was on vacation so the lack of connection was probably a good thing for relaxation. ;-)

This place could really get 5 stars easily, but the problems (bathroom door, mosquito shields, jacuzzi) really need to be fixed in order to give to the customer the impression of a better-maintained place.
On the up side, the place is very nice, the pool is great, Tatjana and Daniela are really very kind, and the dog is so nice! I highly recommend staying here.
