My husband and I (Americans) stayed at the House of Fountains Dec ‘07. We had a great time-there is so much to recommend here; nice friendly hosts, clean, spacious home in a residential area which is just a mile or so from the center of Lahaina. The house contains many Hawaiian and Polynesian artifacts and Don, being a native Hawaiian, was always ready to discuss them and share his knowledge of Hawaiian history and culture with us.
Breakfast is served in the great room around a very large table with a lazy susan packed with everything you could want for breakfast. The hosts often joined us all for breakfast as well and the discussions that ensued usually meant we spend an hour or more at breakfast. Now that’s enjoying your vacation!
Adjacent to the great room is a Lanai which the guest can use (and we did quite often) and on the lower floor is a great pool area with tables and chairs and a kitchen area that is specifically for guest use. This is a great place where we and the other guests gathered in the early evening after a long day or later in the evening as well.
As some of have said, there are probably a higher percentage of german speaking guests staying here, but don’t let that stop you. English is spoken by all of the staff, and the international array of guests while we were there had no problem talking with one another. We also did not find the children noisy nor is the home cluttered.
The House of Fountains is truly homey and comfy. If you’re looking for a B&B in Maui on the west coast I would highly recommend this Hawaiian B&B.
