“an upcountry treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2011

To begin our three-stop tour in Maui at Maui Moonlight Garden in the Upcountry was a magical moment. Our hosts, Anne and Marvin, presented Mahena Cottage to us for three nights featuring incredible views of the coast and clouds surrounding Halakela from the deck, advice on local places to walk and eat, freedom to roam their gardens, morning calls of neighboring roosters and the chime of the adjacent church's bells. The accomodations were very private with a personal touch of the warmth of their hospitality. We trust others will feel the same.

“Great place for a rest cure”

We stayed in the Lehua Cottage (one of two available) at this B&B, for 2 nights. It is up on the shoulder of Haleakula, so it is out of the humid heat of sea level Maui, yet is not too cold. (A light sweater is a good idea, though). It is quiet except for the sounds of birds and the occasional barking dog down the hill. The cottage is very light and spacious, with an incredible view over Kihei (in the distance) and toward west Maui. The beds were comfortable, and the hosts very helpful and kind. Breakfast (delivered to the room the night prior) was fresh papaya with lime, croissants, and yogurt the first morning; bagels and pineapple the next. Coffee and teas were in the room along with cream and sugar. Very convenient if you plan to go up the mountain for day of hiking, which we did do (allow at least 45 min as the road is narrow with many switchbacks). We stayed with our adult son; cost was $200 a night for 3 of us in this 2 bedroom cottage. Very reasonable for Maui, especially considering the location and view. We DID miss having an internet connection, though!

“Great vacation spot”

We have stayed at maui moonlight garden, several times. As always, Anne and Marvin are the gracious hosts and the Mahina Cottage is the best. I would highly recommend anyone, who visits Maui, to check out their website and stay with them. You will not find better hosts and a more beautiful place to stay.

“perfect honeymoon spot in maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2010

We stayed in the Mahina Cottage during our honeymoon. There was no better place. We simply loved it and think it was the best place we stayed in during our 4 week trip.
The appartment was spacious, cozy and decorated with a mix of english and japanese items. We enjoyed our breakfast on the large patio with perfect scenery (sea view) and relaxed (and got sub burned) on the hammock. The breakfast was simply fantastic and always prepared by our hosts the night before. They also let us use their picknick equipment, some warm clothes (for the haleakala) and stuff, which was really nice.
The place was also relatively close to the haleakala (don´t miss the sunrise there).

“I think the best word is Sanctuary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2009

When we pulled into the driveway, we were enveloped in this sanctuary feeling. The tall trees and flowers were everywhere. We stayed in the Mahina Cottage and loved it.

My husband did miss a TV quite a bit, but he took naps every day on the couch, so all was not lost. I took a nap on the hammock on the back deck. The view is spectacular. You can see 2 shorelines with the mountains inbetween from that same deck!!

Anne, the owner, was very helpful. We had a continental breakfast every morning, that was always a treat and our own coffeepot, which was nice.

There is a coffee shop and 2 small stores just down the road which was a find.

Overall, a good experience and I would recommend this place to anyone, just keep in mind there is no TV.
