“Great Place for a Family Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

My wife and I, along with our daughter and her fiance, recently spent a week in Maui. I thought it would be better, and cheaper, to try and stay in a condo rather than rent two hotel rooms, and this place turned out to be an inspired choice. Our beautiful apartment (501, one of the deluxe apartments) had a complete kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, two baths, and a nice lanai with a stunning view of the beach and ocean (which, unfortunately, wasn't good for swimming; more about this shortly). The condo is also an easy walk from several supermarkets, several restaurants (from fast food on up), a shopping area, and an outdoor fruit/crafts market. Kihei is also a great place to make your base of operations, particularly if you have a car, as many of Maui's wonderful attractions (Lahaina, Hana road, Mt. Haleakalah, etc.) are only a reasonable drive away. Although our beach wasn't good for swimming, there was good swimming, I think, within walking distance, and in any event there is both excellent swimming and snorkeling at several beach parks just a very short (say, ten minute) drive away. Finally, a word about management: the office manager Linda was very friendly and helpful, always responding promptly to emails and even letting us stay a few hours past the checkout time (we had a very late flight back to the mainland). The latter, of course, cannot be guaranteed and obviously depends on the booking situation at the condo, but there are some places that kick you out at the checkout time regardless of individual circumstances. All in all, I really have nothing negative to say about this place, and I recommend it very highly if you have, say, a family of four and want a reasonably priced alternative where you won't be crowding one another.

“Koa lagoon relaxes us and makes us happy!”

My husband and I love this little piece of heaven on Maui. We go to the Koa at the end of our long Alaska winter and stay for as long as we can every year. We love ground floor best but others might like a view from the fifth or sixth floor. Linda the office manager is awesome and friendly. Alan takes care of the property and he is the best! This a place to relax, enjoy the sunset, lay by the great pool and be glad the beach is not great swimming because there are no crowds. I look forward to the end of march every year because I plan to spend time at the Koa revisiting our favorite Maui places. Reservations are made for next year and we look forward to being back at the Koa lagoon!

“Exceeded expectations”

This was our second stay at Koa Lagoon. In my last review, my only negative was that the unit was a bit worn. This time I paid a little more (very little more) for a deluxe unit (502), and it was indeed deluxe. What a deal! As people have mentioned, it’s important to know that you are not staying on a sandy white swimming beach. If that is important to you, you will probably need to spend more. But Koa Lagoon is oceanfront with an amazing view, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

“Great average place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2011

This is our second year staying it this place, we were probably the youngest couple there, but the place is very nice, good location right by the water, but the beach is not the greates, but we just like being near the water and it's close to downtown kihei. It is nothing really fancy, but I tend to think we are picky people and we really like this place. We have stayed in two different condos and both we were happy with. This time we stayed in 302 and we liked it's looks better than our last stay, but that's just because it had an updated kitchen. But from the two condos we have stayed at here we would recommend this place to couples. The road is noisy, but we always had the air conditioning on at night which drowned out street noise which I know some people complain about here. I would definately recommend this place. And Linda the manager is very sweet.

Room Tip: Room 302 has a nice updated kitchen.

“Very average complex”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

This is a good place because its right on the ocean/beach, unlike many hotels in Kihei. Thats a plus. Its also close to shopping, etc. Some rooms are renovated, some aren't. Check-out time at 10 am is too early as most return flights back home are late at night. Rental Manager was not terribly friendly or cooperative in allowing us to have a late check-out. Furthermore, we had several maintenance issues in the suite that were not attended to in a timely fashion by management. The grounds are OK - communal BBQ was nice. Pool area was OK. The beach is not nice and is not suitable for swimming or snorkeling. You have to hit one of the public beaches for that. I guess I would recommend the place but its nothing special.
