“A Great B&B for a Brief Trip to Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2011

A traveling buddy & I made a detour from a convention in Honolulu for a brief adventure to Maui. The accommodations were fantastic, and best of all, Tom was extraordinarily accommodating. We were able to drop off our luggage at 7AM (before driving to Hana) and he suggested we use his styrofoam cooler and to buy food/drinks for the journey (as there is only one general store in Hana, which is very overpriced). Breakfast on the deck the next day was great, with homemade breads, fresh fruit, eggs and juice.

For the location, price and amenities, it is the place to stay.

“Absolutely recommended without hesitation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2011

Tom has two small apartments built into his house, but with the foliage and the arrangement of the architecture, they have peace and privacy. Everything exceeded expectations, and it was both romantic without being frilly, as well as convenient. Plenty of space, and a big two-person tiled shower. Easy to find, off-street parking for our rental car, a short drive to the beach (and easy parking at the beach). We stayed for a week over Christmas, 2009 (sorry for writing such a late review...). Tom prepared a delicious breakfast with homemade bread and freshly picked fruit each morning. After our daily activities of swimming, hiking, and whale-watching (and there is a plethora of whales, which completely surprised me), we would stop by the nearby Safeway and Blockbuster, buy some food and rent a movie, and enjoy each evening at this inn/apartment cooking, soaking in the hot tub, and cuddling on the bed while watching a movie on our laptop (I brought speakers). We felt so comfortably hosted by Tom that we invited him downstairs to the apartment for dinner on our last night.

“Perfect for divers, we may never go back to resorts!”

This was our first B&B experience and we just loved it! We had a private entrance to a wonderful cottage with a newly remodeled bathroom, a kitchen, a bedroom area, a private lanai and garden!! Everything was very clean and bright. Tom and Akiko are wonderful hosts. We scuba dive so we are early morning risers, but that wasn't a problem for the breakfast. Tom brought down our breakfast at night so we could have it before our dives. It was wonderful with amazing fresh bread, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and awesome fresh fruit. They even had incredible mango pineapple home-made jam for the bread!

This place is perfect for divers. We were literally a 2 minute drive to the Kihei boat ramp where Mike Severns launches from. (check out my review on Mike Severns, because trust me, you don't want to go out with any other company!). They also have an outdoor shower so we could rinse off our gear, and a private outdoor area we could hang out gear to dry.

We were also just a few minute drive to the beach. Tom and Akiko have beach mats, chairs, and beach towels for our use. No renting them for $25.00 a day per person at the resort!

Tom was available for questions any time we wanted, but we never felt hassled. We could do our own thing or get any recommendations we wanted. They left great guidebooks in the room so that we had some great information.

As for restaurants - do NOT miss Mama's Fish House!! It is expensive, but it has amazing food! For less expensive options, we loved the Tiki Lounge and went there often. But of course we had our own kitchen and an outdoor grill so we made a lot of our own meals.

We loved our stay here so much that we may never book a resort again!

“More than satisfactory!”

We only stayed at the Maui Homestay for a couple of days, but we were more than satisfied with our experience there. Our accommodations were just fine for our intents and purposes - the beds were very comfortable, the accommodations spacious and comfortable. Freshly baked bread was served each morning, along with fresh fruit, etc. Tom is an interesting, warm and hospitable fellow, and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him each morning - he always made himself available for conversation and to answer any questions we might have. I highly recommend this B & B, and would stay here again.
