Kihei Beach Resort is truly a hidden gem. Located a couple of miles north of Kihei on South Kihei Road on what is known by locals as Sugar Beach, KBR has jaw dropping ocean views, wonderful amenities and a small Hawaiian resort relaxed feel. We've been coming to Maui for 20 years and happened upon KBR quite by accident walking down the beach from the condo we were staying at the Sugar Beach Resort. On this last trip to Maui we decided to give it a try and have found our place on Maui. The attraction is the small boutique feel of the place and the incredible ocean front experience you get from virutally every unit. You can almost jump off your balcony and land in the sands of Sugar Beach (not recommended). KBR boasts only 50 (est.) units and this lends to a very relaxed and uncrowded feel (contrary to the hustle bustle, and crowded pool and beach at Sugar Beach). In addition to the beach, there is a wonderful and well kept grass lawn between the condo's and the beach with an abundance of lounges and shaded by coconut palms. We loved our early morning walks on Sugar Beach - once you get past a series of 4 other condo complexes (including the massive Sugar Beach Resort), you have 5 miles (?) of untouched and pristine wild Maui coastline. We saw sea turtles and dolphins right off the beach on our walks and we were told by a resident that in the winter months the Humpacks keep their newborn babies in the safe shallows of the bay for a period of time before heading out to deeper water. One of the coolest things we found staying there was presence of the Kihei Canoe Club right next door. While we were there, almost every morning the club appeared to be training their various competitive canoe teams out in front of Kihei Beach Resort. We thoroughly enjoyed the Hawaiian ambiance of this daily spectacle from our lanai over coffee and breakfast. Another plus, there is a small but wonderful farmers market directly across the street with an excellent selection of fresh island fruit - very convenient...and ABC store right next to the Farmers Market. We were extremly happy with our one bedroom/two bathroom unit. It was recently and beautifully renovated and was well appointed, furnished and provisioned. In selecting our unit, we found that as every unit is individually owned, most but not all have been remodeled so you need to take care in selecting your unit to ensure the best possible experience. We found that process to be extremely easy and effective thru the internet websites and pictures available from the rental companies that represent the units. We are in love with Kihei Beach Resort and plan to include it in our bi-annual Maui getaway.
