I too, do not understand the unfair criticism of Jeff. He was terrific the 3 weeks we were there last October. He was up very early every morning to clean the pool and 'patrol' the area, cleaning and tidying up. He was always pleasant to chat with and gave lots of advice on the complex itself and nearby areas.
We stayed in ground unit 110 rented from Tom at Dreams Come True on Maui http://www.dreamscometrueonmaui.com. Since there were only 2 of us, we chose to just have access to the nicely decorated living area, main bedroom and bath at a discounted rate.
Note that the attached bathroom (the tiles, fan and shower in particular) needs to be updated!
We bought a rack so we could store shampoo etc. above the shower floor, and an answering machine. Then we had everything we needed in the condo. It was a great deal for the price.
The lanai was huge (but not very private being on the ground level) and you could watch the sunsets every evening to the SW. (the unit faces the back of the BBQ/Recycling Shed/Pool changing area so you need to look to your left.) The pool was just a few steps to the right from the lanai – the pool and Kamaole beach III (my fave) were very convenient.
The noise was quite loud at times, but the great location made it tolerable. The traffic noise, garbage trucks and weedwackers didn’t really bother me as that was during the day.
The main bedroom is in the back of the unit away from the street, so nights were restful and you could even hear the ocean at night if the surf was high.
The Kamaole Sands tennis courts are behind the unit, so if you choose to sleep in (beyond daybreak) you will hear the ‘bonk’ of tennis balls.
Still, you can’t really beat Kam 3! The unit was booked this year, so we will be trying out Halealaka Shores next door for Oct 2010.
