Rented this condo for a month from Nov 14 to Dec 14 2011 First day of our holiday we found bed bug feces and live bed bugs on the mattress cover. We also found a white powder spread along the base of the head board. We contacted the owner told him the problem and asked what the white powder was for. The owner claims he was doing a preventative treatment as the complex had a problem. After talking to other owners we didnt hear of anyone else having a problem. We stayed 6 nights sleeping on the fold out in the living room while he organized an exterminator to come. The exterminator came and informed us that the fold out had bed bugs to. The exterminator had taken the cover off the mattress and that displayed evidence of a many more bugs. Someone got feasted on. We were afraid to visit our friends, go to other condo's or complexes in case we took them with us. It was a horrible experience. Without the proper treatments being done and keep renting these units regardless then it will happen. They will become an epidemic. We rented another condo in the same complex with no problems at all. Managed to have three weeks without being paranoid. We never got any compensation. We love Maui and its people. It was a very unfortunate situation that could have been avoided if someone would have just said. Hey I got a problem.

We stayed at unit D403. It just finised remodel with new appliances. It need a new mattress or sofa bed. The bad thing about top floor is the heat. They should have insulate the ceiling to save electricity cost & comfort.

Our stay was actually January/February 2010 but I forgot to submit the review before now. We found the rental on VRBO.com, listing #16662. The pictures of the unit are exactly what it looks like, even better. The owner was fantastic to deal with. He offered car rental, restaurant, sightseeing and shopping advice before we arrived so we were prepared once we landed. Absolutely everyting we could hope or wish for was in the unit. Great lanai with an ocean view and a short walk down the street to the ocean. My husband and I slept in the one bedroom and our son slept in the living room on the pull out sofa. Both were very comfortable and we had lots of room. The washer and dryer in the unit came in very handy for all the beach towels and allowed us to wash our clothes before we moved onto the second part of our trip to Wailea. After a trip to Costco for steak, we had a great bbq at the Condo bbq area near the pool. We ate most of our meals in the condo and just relaxed at the beach and at the pool...it was fantastic. We found all the guests at the condo very respectful (most are owner) and the property was kept very clean.

We thoroughly enjoyed our accomodations at Alii Kai. After reading the previous reviews, you need to understand that these units are owned by an individual and don't offer traditional hotel services. Each unit is unique based on the owner's personal taste and style. These are condo units and you should provide items for daily living. Grocery & conveniece stores are close by and Kamaole Beach (beautiful) is across the street
1 1/2 blocks away. We loved the location, facilities and accomodations (Unit C407). We plan to make this an annual vacation spot. Great restaurants and shopping, plus plenty of sun and water!!!!!!!!!!!! Highly recommend.
