We recently stayed in unit 414, 3 bedroom 2 bath, oceanfront view and it was wonderful. We originally wanted to stay in unit 114, whose listing we found here on Tripadvisor, but Jim was booked that week, so lucky for us he helped us find this unit and was also SUPER helpful in recommending activities and the BEST Molokini snorkeling tour. UNIT 414 is clean, has a big flat screen TV, sleeps 6 (we had a toddler in a playpen so it slept 7 for us), and has a full kitchen. It also had a rolling cooler for us to use to take to the beach, and a rolling crate to take our sand toys in, as well as a child and adult life jacket. There are quiet ceiling fans in every room and the breeze keeps the unit cool as well, no need for A/C. It has a washer & dryer in the unit, and there was some detergent in the unit for us to use as well. It was nice to be able to wash towels during our stay and clothes and be able to take clean clothes home. Unit 414 has 3 bedrooms, 2 of which have queen beds with ocean views, and the other of which has 2 twin beds (we joined them together and created a king). It also has 2 bathrooms, one with a bathtub/shower and the master bathroom has a stand-up shower. The lanai has an amazing view of the ocean, we were even able to see whales (December). What is great about the lanai is that it faces the ocean directly in front of the resort but the beach is off to the left and right, so you don't have people on the beach directly in front of your unit, which gives you privacy too. We traveled with a 4 year old and 1 year old and the protected beach which used to be an ancient fishing pond, was perfect, you could wade in there with kids and it would only hit your knees, or go further beyond the rocks if you wanted to snorkel. We had no problems with seaweed. We often drove to Makena Beach (about 10 minutes away with free parking) that we fell in love with in the morning/afternoons and spent the evenings on the condo's beach or enjoying the lanai. Jim actually recommended the Kai Kanani Molokini snorkel tour (early morning express tour was the best!) and it departed from this beach so that is how we knew we should return to this great beach.
We stayed for 10 days so we made sandwich lunches with stuff we'd bought at Costco near the Maui airport, ate breakfast before we left for the beach or sightseeing and then either went out or cooked dinner in the condo. Unit 414 has beach towels so you don't need to bring your own. It also has wireless internet, and everything you'd have/need in your kitchen at home.
There is a Safeway about a mile away, if you have a VONS savings card, they work there, but if you have a Costco membership, you may want to get some or most of your food at Costco, food is expensive on Maui but much less so at Costco.
I highly recommend a stay at Menehune Shores and if we are lucky enough to be able to return to Maui in the future, we will definitely be staying here again. We were very comfortable, had an amazing oceanfront view, and were very centrally located. The prices were the lowest we found anywhere for the size of the unit and comparably very affordable. If you're traveling with other people (grandparents, cousins), you can share the cost of this big condo instead of booking rooms at a big hotel for double the money and save yourself a bunch of money on meals too.
