“Best comfortable oceanfront deal on Maui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We recently stayed in unit 414, 3 bedroom 2 bath, oceanfront view and it was wonderful. We originally wanted to stay in unit 114, whose listing we found here on Tripadvisor, but Jim was booked that week, so lucky for us he helped us find this unit and was also SUPER helpful in recommending activities and the BEST Molokini snorkeling tour. See Jim's unit:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g60632-d1830914-Oceanfront_Paradise_Awesome_Views_3_Bed_2_Bath-Kihei_Maui_Hawaii.html

UNIT 414 is clean, has a big flat screen TV, sleeps 6 (we had a toddler in a playpen so it slept 7 for us), and has a full kitchen. It also had a rolling cooler for us to use to take to the beach, and a rolling crate to take our sand toys in, as well as a child and adult life jacket. There are quiet ceiling fans in every room and the breeze keeps the unit cool as well, no need for A/C. It has a washer & dryer in the unit, and there was some detergent in the unit for us to use as well. It was nice to be able to wash towels during our stay and clothes and be able to take clean clothes home. Unit 414 has 3 bedrooms, 2 of which have queen beds with ocean views, and the other of which has 2 twin beds (we joined them together and created a king). It also has 2 bathrooms, one with a bathtub/shower and the master bathroom has a stand-up shower. The lanai has an amazing view of the ocean, we were even able to see whales (December). What is great about the lanai is that it faces the ocean directly in front of the resort but the beach is off to the left and right, so you don't have people on the beach directly in front of your unit, which gives you privacy too. We traveled with a 4 year old and 1 year old and the protected beach which used to be an ancient fishing pond, was perfect, you could wade in there with kids and it would only hit your knees, or go further beyond the rocks if you wanted to snorkel. We had no problems with seaweed. We often drove to Makena Beach (about 10 minutes away with free parking) that we fell in love with in the morning/afternoons and spent the evenings on the condo's beach or enjoying the lanai. Jim actually recommended the Kai Kanani Molokini snorkel tour (early morning express tour was the best!) and it departed from this beach so that is how we knew we should return to this great beach.
We stayed for 10 days so we made sandwich lunches with stuff we'd bought at Costco near the Maui airport, ate breakfast before we left for the beach or sightseeing and then either went out or cooked dinner in the condo. Unit 414 has beach towels so you don't need to bring your own. It also has wireless internet, and everything you'd have/need in your kitchen at home.
There is a Safeway about a mile away, if you have a VONS savings card, they work there, but if you have a Costco membership, you may want to get some or most of your food at Costco, food is expensive on Maui but much less so at Costco.

I highly recommend a stay at Menehune Shores and if we are lucky enough to be able to return to Maui in the future, we will definitely be staying here again. We were very comfortable, had an amazing oceanfront view, and were very centrally located. The prices were the lowest we found anywhere for the size of the unit and comparably very affordable. If you're traveling with other people (grandparents, cousins), you can share the cost of this big condo instead of booking rooms at a big hotel for double the money and save yourself a bunch of money on meals too.

Room Tip: Stay in a higher floor if you're not a fan of curry. Contact Jim Speth if you need help choosin...

“Condo #309”

We stayed here during the "high" time in Maui...the week before Christmas and could not have been happier. Kihei is pretty central to everything on the Island so eventhough everything is a drive, it's better than a drive from Lahina or Ka'anapali. This unit faces the small fishing area and pool which was great for watching sunrises and sunsets and keeping an eye out for whales. Easy access to the beaches for a nice walk, swim, or snorkel. Not a 5 star resort by any means so if you are looking for luxury and top notch service this is not for you, but if you are looking for a clean, quiet place that is VERY reasonably priced look no further. We got exactly what we wanted out of staying here. A nice place with everything we could possibly need including kayaks, snorkel equipment, laundry, and a fully stocked kitchen.

Room Tip: The rooms on the south side bottom level have nice access to the beach and to a nice lawn, the other...

“This place was the best! Wonderful management, gorgeous grounds, great room!!”

From the time of considering booking until our last minute in this condo we were so thankful we found this place. We rented a 2 bed/2 bath fully remodeled unit and would absolutely stay here again. K.H., the manager of the property, was THE BEST! I had a lot of questions before booking and he always answered them very quickly and kindly. He assisted us to find the perfect unit for our family. The price was great. The unit was completely upgraded with comfortable beds, flat screen tvs, etc. The grounds were immaculate--every morning at sunrise there was someone cleaning the pool, picking up leaves off of the gorgeous manicured lawn, and making sure everything was pristine for everyone's enjoyment. I can't say enough about the view...we arrived at night but my parents had arrived earlier in the day and they said wait until you see the view....they were right! Our first morning, we awoke to swaying palm trees, the beautiful Ma'alaea Bay, and the soaring West Maui mountains in the distance. We were truly in paradise. We met K.H. in person while we were there and he was great. He answered a few questions we had and gave us some great tips on the area. He even let us check out late because no one was staying in the unit the next day and that way we didn't have to try to find a place to put our stuff and a place to clean up before our late flight. We will absolutely be back hopefully sooner than later and will most definitely try to stay in the same unit. From what we heard from others-there are some updated units and some not so updated. All are fine, but it definitely pays to book through Menehune Reservations to help you find one that is right for you.

“Tried and True”

I have stayed at Menehune Shores many times and will be returning later this month. It's a great location for day tripping. It's a fantastic waterfront location for the price. It's not a great beach but the views are amazing.

Parking if free but the spaces are not reserved, so if you arrive back late at night you won't get a prime spot. There are 2 elevators, one for each "wing" and a nice rooftop sunbathing and BBQ area, which is also a great location to watch the sun set.

I have always found the units to be clean and functional, not luxury, but nice enough. The large lanais are great for morning coffee and dinner al fresco.

I always book through Menehune Reservations and was sad to hear about the passing of their reservations agent Sam this spring. And after a few minor hiccups with his replacement, I have booked my 2 bed/2bath condo for my mother and sisters for a girls getaway. Looking forward to being lulled to sleep again by the sound of the waves.

I love this place for it's price, consistency and location.

“Room 219 Great! Sound of waves to put you to sleep.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Some of the rooms in the complex are by the pool, some by the highway. This room is right by the ocean so the soothing sound of waves can be heard all day and night which help put us to sleep. The room is on the 2nd floor making it easily accessible by the stairs which was nice since the elevators in the complex can be a bit slow at times. Lots of gear in the room placed by owners including snorkels, body boards and beach chairs. Will be back. Room kept in great condition and very spacious.
