Well we came back to this condo complex and stayed several days in June of 2009. We booked our rooms through the resort and we were happy with the rooms again. We were able to get one of the same rooms we had last time we visited. The rooms were clean and the facilities were in good shape. We used the communal grille, laundry room and shuffle board equipment. Our condos also had boogie boards and chairs to take out on the beach. The kitchens were nicely stocked, so we just bought food for breakfast and lunches. The pool and beach were never crowded and we enjoyed both of them. We did use our rental car to go out to dinner and do day trips. As there really is no snorkeling on this beach, we would drive to different places to enjoy that activity. From this location we took a trip to Hana, it did take all day but was a pretty drive.

We have stayed at the Maalaea Surf Resort every year for the past ten years and I am sure we will continue on. The grounds are immaculately kept and it is very quiet and serene. Not a very busy place as far as kids go but we often see returning families with their kids which is great. We have never had any issues with this resort and feel it is like our home away from home. Also, we go to the Farmers Market across the street daily for fresh produce and bread. I have to add that the Mock Chicken Tofu that they make is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten and I look forward to it every year!!

Stayed at Maalaea Surf in mid July and had a great time. The resort was in the middle of a complete rebuild of the outsides of the units. The new exteriors look great. Many of the owners have taken the opportunity to update their units. Our extended family stayed in 4 different units and there was quite the difference in the units, so you may want to ask for photos of the unit before you lock it in.

In this age of the mega hotels with the water slides and more than a few screaming kids the low density Maalaea Surf is great contrast. So if you looking that big pool this is not the place for you. But if you’re looking for that laid back Hawaiian vacation, check the Maalaea Surf out.

I stayed here with my parents (3 adults including myself and a 16 year old) and can say this small resort is a great find. Our apartment was great with modern appliances and although it wasnt facing the beach, we still had a view of the ocean. The two pools were great and the resort was well-taken care of and quiet. The beach was also great. Only thing I would say that was very off-putting (which is not any fault of the actual resort) was the Maalaea landfill only a few miles from the resort. At times when we were sitting outside on our balcony enjoying our dinner, we could REALLY smell the landfill. While VERY offputting, it wasnt a constant occurrance, mostly just in the evening when the winds blew from that direction. I would definitely stay here again.
