“LOVE this complex”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

I have been to this complex about 5-6 times now, and we won't stay anywhere else. Some of the positives:
1) LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Close to shops, restaurants, bars
2) Set on one of the best beaches in south Maui
3) The complex is built so all units have ocean views.
4) The layout of the units is perfect for 2 couples or a couple with kids. Each has a "master suite".

I noticed that most of the reviews posted here were from 2009 prior, so I really felt this place was getting a bum rap as much has changed. The first main change was that Alii took over managing, which was a HUGE plus. Previously they had an on site office & manager, and we had very bad experiences with them. When Alii took it over in 2009 (I believe) it was way better. We had an issue with the cleanlliness of our unit a couple of years ago. I was infomed that they had to let a couple of the cleaning folks go, and they were hoping this would take care of it. I did notice that this time our unit seemed much cleaner. The other thing I wanted to mention is that they closed the complex down this past September & did a bunch of structural renovations, painting, etc. All of the crappy indoor/outdoor carpeting was removed from the lanais, and some of the unit owners have even tiled the lanais, which is really nice.

The couple of negatives this past trip were noisy neighbors--after "quiet time". Fortunately, there is an on site manager who nipped it in the bud, so it was only an issue a couple of times. This has never been a problem on any of our other stays. I rated the value as a 4 star. While it is affordable if we come with another couple, we would not be able to afford this complex on our own. I see where it would be frustrating to pay full boat for a non-renovated 80's unit, while the folks right above or below you are staying in a 5 star unit for the same price. It helps that Alii gives a "return guest" discount, but it would be nice if this discount were a bigger percentage.

The thing people need to realize is that each of these units belongs to a different owner. Each owner decides if he/she feels compelled to renovate thier unit. Over the last few years I've seen more units being renovated, updated, etc. I understand how frustrating it is to not get what you expect, but if you book your unit directly through Alii, you have the opportunity to look at several photo's of the units & book the exact unit you will occupy. I have found that each of the units we stayed in looks the same or even better than the photo's, so I really don't feel there is any deception here. People also need to realize that the nicest, most renovated units will book up, so while yes it is great to wait & see if you get a "bargain", just don't be disappointed when the unit(s) you want are already booked. It is a trade off, and I do believe you get what you pay for in most cases.

“Great Location”

This review is a bit overdue. We stayed in unit 506 in January 2009. The view was magnificent. The apartment itself was fine for our needs, but could have used some TLC at the time, especially for the price we paid. The location is great for both shopping , restaurant, and of course the 3 Kam beaches. Overall, would stay again.

“Kamaole Nalu was Great”

We stayed at the Kamaole Nalu Unit 405 for 8 nights in July. It was a wonderful condo and the location can't be beat. If you are wanting to stay in Kihei and right on a great beach this is the place. The Kamaole Nalu is beachfront and just a short walk to a large and uncrowded beach with good snorkeling. We brought our two teenagers with us and the condo was just the right size. Two bedrooms / two baths. No A/C but you didn't need it. The condo was clean and well equipped with everything we needed, including beach towels and chairs. The view from the balcony took my breath away. This condo was a great bargain for an ocean view. There is a shopping center just across the street with a grocer and restaurants. We will definitely stay here again. If you want to rent in the building I would recommend a condo ending in a 5 or 6 as they are the closest to the ocean.

“Great Beachfront Location for a Family Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2010

We just returned from an extended vacation at Kamaole Nalu. We rented unit #402 and really enjoyed our accommodations and experience. After reading other Trip Advisor reviews, we contacted the owners by phone, prior to booking our reservation. The owners, (Grant & Lisa) were very friendly and professional. They answered all our questions and referred us to several other guest reviews describing their condo, resort and amenities. We were happy with their explanations and booked our reservation with them directly over the phone. The process was very simple, quick and easy.

Upon arrival, we were amazed. The location was right on the beach. Parking was very convenient and there was an elevator and cart for tranferring our luggage. Our 2br/2ba condo was fully furnished and had a gorgeous ocean view. There were 6 people in our party, and the accommodations were very comfortable. There is no A/C, however we never missed it. The condo is "oceanfront", so A/C noise would just cover up the gentle sounds of the ocean washing up on our beach. The daily Trade breezes kept us very comfortable and cool. Our condo was nicely maintained and everything worked as advertised. It had a fully equipped kitchen, and a washer and dryer for freshening up the nice beach towels provided by the owners. There was also a wall safe, to lock up our valuables. Free WiFi from our room allowed us to stay up to date with family and send them daily photos of our vacation.

There is also a free Business Center downstairs, with a computer, printer & fax. This was very convenient for those who didnt bring a labtop and for printing boarding passes for our trip home. Use of the business center, WiFi access and parking are all Free!! The resort is very quiet and we felt very safe and secure.

The grounds have a new manager who lives on site. He does a really nice job of maintaining the pool and gardens. He is very friendly and courteous. The complex recently purchased lots of new lounge chairs for guests. We really enjoyed these, and could watch turtles & whales, while soaking up the sun and reading a book from the grassy area or our resort. We could also watch our kids swim, snorkel and boogie board, without getting up from our chairs or leaving the grounds.

We loved our stay at Kamaole Nalu and cannot wait to return. Hopefully #402 will be available for our next vacation and we definitely recommend it to anyone reading our review.

J & M

“The Best Maui Has To Offer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

person found this review helpful

We stayed 3 weeks at Kamaole Nalu, unit # 105, from late January to mid February. The unit was upgraded with new furniture, kitchen items, towels, and other comfortable items. This unit had everything in the kitchen for full cooking, had Egyptian cotton sheets (the best I have ever slept on), high end pillows and every item needed to perform laundry (how many units supply even laundry detergent?). This unit was private, even though close to the pool. Hearing the ocean every night while sleeping was the best "sound machine" one could experience. The unit was clean, up to date, very comfortable and even included all the items needed for serious beach play, including boogie boards. It is my every intention to return next year at the same time at the same next year unit as I have not experienced any better unit on the Island (I have been traveling annually to Maui for the last 15 years). Keep up the good work! From a wonderfully satisfied customer, D. ;-)
